| Penn Foster - Financial Management - - - - -I need some help !!! - bigjimindfw - 04-10-2016 Has anyone taken recently Penn Foster's FIN-101, Financial Management ??? I have taken 2 test and failed both - -I have a hard time with financial math. I took the CLEP Financial Accounting exam 6 times before I passed it with 5 points to spare; so as you can see, I have math phobia. I am finishing up TESC BSBA In Human Resource Management, a field I am already involved in for almost 30 years. I know how to do performance reviews and write job descriptions, but cannot explain debits and credits !!!!! My wife does the checkbook !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do not laugh; I have 5 classes to go to get my 4 year adult degree. If anyone can help me, please PM me. Hi Big Jim, We're not here to laugh at you, we're here to laugh with you... When you're done the course, soon. I haven't taken the course yet, but it is one I will be taking from Penn Foster, I have an idea how it goes. Have you read previous threads for assistance? I would start there as I believe it's all homework and take home tests. These should be similar to open book testing with all answers available to review. You may want to read threads on tips to pass the math section with online searching or calculators. Note: Last I read, these exams are not proctored and you can retake them, except the final, there is no retake. If that is the case, repeat your first two then continue with the others after grasping those concepts. Do you have the study guide? See these threads. http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-thomas-edison-charter-oak-specific/25815-principles-finance.html http://www.degreeforum.net/general-education-testing-discussion/25359-penn-foster-financial-management.html http://www.degreeforum.net/general-education-testing-discussion/24908-penn-foster-financial-managent-proctored.html I have downloaded the study guide for this course, found on this thread. You can use it while doing your homework. http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-thomas-edison-charter-oak-specific/21618-financial-management-101-penn-foster-tesc.html Best of luck. Take Care, Penn Foster - Financial Management - - - - -I need some help !!! - dfrecore - 04-10-2016 Unlike some others on this forum, I found the course difficult, and I don't have a math phobia. I thought that they asked questions in the exam that you just could not find in the textbook. Here are the tips I can give (on the PF format rather than the test in general). 1) Print out the exam. 2) Do the exam. Use the ebook, and search rigorously for the answers (they're not easy to find). 3) Circle the answers. 4) Take the exam online, submit, and then see how you do. 5) Highlight the answers you got wrong, and do a lot more searching. At least you'll have it narrowed down. Mark the corrected answers. 6) Retake the exam (you can do this with the first 5 exams, and the questions are in the same order). 7) Once you get to the final, print it out, and work on it. I took 2 days per exam (1 day to do the first run through, and marking the wrong answers, and then my brain was fried; 1 day to correct my exam and resubmit). I took even longer to complete the final exam. Maybe 3 days working on it here and there. Lots of time spent trying to figure out the answers. Take your time. Do not rush through it. I am glad I spent time on this, everyone else here seemed to do it in like 2 days, it took me closer to 3 weeks to do it (I did not work on it every day, but would need several hours at a stretch to work on it, and finding the time to do that wasn't easy for me). Good luck! Penn Foster - Financial Management - - - - -I need some help !!! - Inteljustice2 - 04-11-2016 bigjimindfw Wrote:Has anyone taken recently Penn Foster's FIN-101, Financial Management ??? Have you read the e-book and created any study notes for the exams? I found it to be easy because I excel in math and have a background in understanding financial markets. Whats easy for some can be difficult for others. I always retook my exams on P.F. if I scored less than 90. I wanted to learn why my first answers were wrong and because you can eliminate your original answers as being wrong, it gives you a better chance at a educated guess once you've eliminated the other choices that don't make sense. The greatest advantage to retaking exams at P.F. is they are exactly the same as the first one. So its not that difficult to correct your wrong answers. I struggled in the beginning with Human Resources Management, but then I re-applied my focus and tried to understand why my original answers were wrong. I remember taking one exam in HRM and getting a 65. I was frustrated, so I took a break, and then reviewed, then read my HRM book some more and went back at it. My retake score was a 90. Sometimes the most obvious answers aren't the correct ones. You have to look at what answer makes the most sense to the question being asked. Good Luck.
