Religion in the workplace - need help - soliloquy - 04-13-2016
One of my last classes is a communication in the workplace class and I have decided as my exit project from that class to put together a lesson module that could potentially be used by the professor in future classes. I want to have an array of different types of media, and plenty of creativity and originality in my presentation while also remembering that this is about religion and the workplace. Would those of you who are interested be so kind as to send me links to websites, videos, presentations, etc. ....ideas for third-party resources other than textbooks that would be useful in this regard.
I'm going to take all of my ideas and compile them into a PowerPoint presentation on the issue of religion and diversity in the workplace.

I can discuss anything. I'm not asking a question. I'm asking for people to post any resources that would be useful - any resource that discusses religion and the workplace.

I don't know of any resources in particular, but I can offer opinions. I've worked for two seperate religious non-profits that were not of my own religion. It can be difficult & awkward - i.e. when meetings are started with prayers from religious texts & everyone is expected to take turns leading, or arranging events & being expected to know issues about particular foods.

hmmm, I'll keep my eyes open- nothing is coming to mind except there was a case not too long ago- last summer maybe? About the court clerk who refused to marry two men based on her religious beliefs. I think that's an example thaa got a ton of press. My two cents, if you work for an employer that has a religious affiliation, you're subject to that faith statement and or premise.
I can think of lots of examples, but keeping it education-related, there are a lot of Christian or Catholic schools/colleges/universities that don't hire Christian/ Catholic teachers/professors...which is a problem if they're unable or unwilling to carry out the principles of that faith. I've observed a lot of college job listings that require employees to sign a faith statement- I think that's excellent. It assures everyone is on the same page about key issues.
On the other hand, if you are religious working at a secular company, it's inappropriate to be evangelical at work. Is it illegal? No, but it's inappropriate because it's a distraction. If the employer wanted to incorporate religion in their business model (and lots of people do) they would have. We have public schools and colleges in every state, clearly staffed by religious people, but the boundaries are more clear in these cases.
