[TESU] Community College lower level, redoing as upper level -- Duplicate? - jsd - 08-23-2016

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

It's theoretical, since I don't need to do anything like this for my degree, but I can see where someone would need to.

Say I've taken a class that TESU would normally count as Upper Level, like Abnormal Psych, but because I've taken it at a community college, they've given me a Lower Level equivalency, as they do. The lower level class would likely be transcribed as something like (and I'm guessing) "Foundations of Abnormal Psychology PSY-2XX."

What if I then took the Abnormal Psych TECEP, which is upper lever? Would it merely replace the old course but now at the upper level under the premise that it's a duplicate, or will it count as a new course, keeping the lower level as an elective or whatever, as the course code is actually different?

I think I'm asking in a way that makes sense.

That totally makes sense -- and is something I was wondering recently. Thank you for asking!!

Another scenario might be the UL & LL Religion ACP courses both available. If one is transcribed, then the other is taken, will both count? and if not, which one would, the first transcribed, or the higher level one?

Great question and only TESU can determine as their policies change so often in regards to everything including transfer or equivalency credit. They should have an updated database and whatever is currently showing will prevail until a modification is done in that particular database.

Well both would be in their internal database, regardless. It's not a matter of what something comes in as, as we know CC always comes in LL. It's a matter of the UL duplicating LL or not.

Obviously TESU can determine this, I'm asking if anyone here has any prior knowledge. Since I don't have this issue, I likely wouldn't get a direct answer if I asked them.

And even then, who knows if it would be accurate info/and or changed in the near future

Are you sure about that? That's very unusual. You might want to check the transfer code they came in as.

Maybe you got lucky and they mistook our 2 year school as a 4 year institution.

Their stated policy is that all CC courses will come in as LL, no matter what (even if the course is exactly the same as an UL course they or another 4-yr school offers). So just thank your lucky stars that this is the case, and hope they don't catch it later when they do the graduation audit (if those courses are needed as UL).

Until a couple of years ago, TESU took community college credits as upper level if they matched syllabi with an upper level course.

I vaguely remember doing a plan for someone with cc-level Intro to Counseling that got transcribed as COU-301 (not PSY-331). I suspect that would become COU-262 today.

My academic evaluation is current and they definitely took 2 CC Psych courses and a CC Politics course and transferred them in as 300 level courses.
