For those of us who can't swing some of the testing/alternative credits, what are the cheapest online 2 year and 4 year colleges?
I'm wondering if my best path might be to do what alternatives I can, take traditional classes at a cheap college, and then transfer everything to the big 3 toward the end of the degree.
If it matters, I am an active duty military spouse, and I currently live in New York.

Wow! I think that's the lowest tuition I've ever seen. Any others? Looks like Luna has a required time to be online, that might be hard to arrange.

Luna and New Mexico Junior College are cheaper or as cheap as anything else I have ever found. If matriculated they will accept regular old financial aid (PELL for example) and they do a good job in the few classes I have seen (NMJC...never seen Luna). They will expect you to be a regular matriculated student however...placement exams, and all that. but they are cheap.
My favorite place to pick up the odd ball class, especially upper level stuff is Colorado State University Pueblo Schedule of Courses > Division of Extended Studies > Colorado State University-Pueblo and the University of Idaho Independent Study in Idaho both have seen price increases every year and they run around $500/course....but you call today to CSU-P and give them a credit card and you can start today on your classes...that is pretty cool.
Provided ACE will work, such as any of the Big 3, Penn Foster has a LOT to offer. $300 or so a course, easy to use, quick to complete....and you can get started today with a phone call and a credit card. Two folks I'm helping are doing almost all of their UL for COSC via PF classes.

Pricing and Fees - Tor College Credits
Tor College ranges from $40 to $85 per credit hour. The Jewish studies classes are the $40 per credit (conditional on you taking three classes), with some being upper level.

Tor is fairly cheap, but it's not a "traditional" course. In fact, it's NCCRS, so it's even less traditional than the already non-traditional ACE.

Check your state to find out if they have community colleges that have cheaper tuition than the regular 4 year college or university schools.
Many people transfer from community college into the universities with their first and second year done, taking their final two years at Uni.
Aside from community college, your other options for cheap are the AP/IB testing, ACE/NCCRS or CLEP/DSST, (and of course language exams).
