Review on study.com Personal Finance - npm2486 - 10-10-2016

I've been a member here for a while, but this is my first post. I'm grateful for all the info on this forum and I just want to give back.
I have been awarded the Guardian/study.com scholarship (https://study.com/blog/guardian-s-personal-finance-scholarship.html) and I'm able to take study.com courses for three months. I can take whatever courses I want, but the first course had to be Personal Finance and I finished it today. This will be a basic review, but if anyone is interested in a detailed review, I have no problem doing so.

So it took me about a week and a half to complete the course. I could have finished it in about 3 days, but I procrastinated a bit. Anyone who has experience with home/car buying, investments, or has really good financial management skills can probably complete this class in a day. I don't have much experience outside of having some basic bank accounts and a car loan, so it took a bit more effort on my part.

I completed all the quizzes with 100% scores and I took the practice final exam twice. I got a 93% both times. I took the final exam and it was harder than the practice exams. Where the practice final exam was simply 45 questions taken from the previously taken quizzes, the 100 question final included about 3 questions from the quizzes. I feel like you need to have a good grasp of the concepts. There are study flash cards at the end of the course that would probably be great preparation for the final. Since I scored so high twice on the practice exams, I didn't go over them. I only read through my notes once.

I have not received my score, yet. I think it may take up to two weeks. I'm a little nervous because there were several questions that I did not know the answer to. I will definitely go over the flashcards next time, and make sure that I know most of the bolded terms in the lessons inside and out. I was a little over confident because the quizzes were so easy.

Once I get my score, I'll update and maybe give tips on what to focus on for the final.

Thanks for sharing. That's awesome that you will be able to take study.com courses for 3 months! Is it unlimited tests, or two a month?

I agree about the flashcards being very helpful. I didn't discover them right away with my first course, but with the second one I printed them off immediately and carried them around, took them to soccer games etc, instead of waiting until the end of the course to use them.

My son has the same scholarship and is taking the Personal Finance final tomorrow. I'll encourage him to check out the flash cards tonight while he studies. I had hoped he'd get his score immediately and then have it validated once reviewed - but it sounds like he won't know his score at all until he hears from the test reviewer?

Congratulations on getting the Scholarship!!! Thank you for the update, I'm sure you did well! We all have "after test" anxiety if we don't see our test scores immediately. Smile

I don't know if I get unlimited tests or not. I don't even know if I have the option to pay for an additional tests. I've started on my next course and hopefully I should be done within a week. If I do get unlimited tests, I'll probably try to do a course a week instead of one every other week.

I ended up with a 93% on the course. Since I got 100% on my quizzes, I guess that means I got like a 90% on the final. I'm not sure, my algebra could be off. It took 9 days for my results. I was really nervous about the appropriateness of my testing location. I'm in an apartment with two other people and a dog. The only place where I could guarantee that no one would interrupt me was the bathroom.

As far as tips, I would just make sure that you know the bolded terms well. The practice test seems to be an appropriate way to gauge your knowledge, even though they are much easier than the actual test.

I'm currently taking Research Methods in Psychology and I'll be reviewing that course next.

Do they have any other scholarships? If so where do I find them. This one wont work for me because I already did Personal Finance in the traditional way.

Probably not. I won the scholarship too and it says I can only take 2 exams per the month, and one has to be personal finance.

The personal finance scholarship gives you the normal 2 exams per month that are part of College Accelerator completely free. You are also welcome to purchase additional exams once you complete the personal finance course to earn even more credit!
