Help w/Degree Plan needed for BSBA, probably TESU, for 15-yr-old son, 46 cr completed - wandac - 10-11-2016

My 15-yr-old homeschool’d son has been working on testing out of courses via Study.com + a couple other sources. As his mom, I’m trying to chart a path for him towards a degree and help him figure out what course to take next. I am not good at this and need the help of the experts here at DegreeForum. I cannot graduate Andrew from high school yet because he’s still missing a few required courses, so I assume we cannot enroll in TESU to get a credit eval yet. Study.com works well for him since he is a visual learner, slow reader, and not so great at reading comprehension. However, I realize that we may need to branch out from Study.com in order to get the required classes he needs. He is also an introvert. Given his learning style& personality, can someone please help me put together a degree plan for him? Although TESU is what we’ve been working toward, I would consider others if they are easier to obtain. It’s all I could do to learn what little I know about TESU. Also, we are in Alabama, if that makes a difference. Given the courses he has taken so far, I’m thinking a BSBA General Management would be the quickest and easiest to obtain, but if I am wrong, please guide me to the best option. Below are his credits so far, along with how I “think” they transfer to TESU. Our Study.com expires January 2017, so I am also trying to map out the best remaining courses for him to take between now and then, with the assumption that it takes him 2 weeks to work through 100 video lessons (he has a full course load in addition to this).

Completed from Study.com: 3 cr each, 42 cr total, TESU equivalent written to the right.
History 103: US History I (TESU HIS-113: American History I)
History 104: US History II (TESU HIS-114: American History II)
History 106: The Civil War & Reconstruction (TESU HIS-252: Civil War and Reconstruction)
History 108: History of the Vietnam War (TESU HIS-351: A History of Vietnam War)
Political Science 102: American Government (TESU POS-110: American Government)
English 305: Advanced Technical Writing (TESU ENG-201 Technical Writing)
Math 103: PreCalculus (TESU MAT-121: College Algebra)
Religion 101: Intro to World Religions (TESU REL-277: Intro to World Religions)
Chemistry 101: General Chemistry (TESU CHE-104: Introductory Chemistry)
Geology 101: Physical Geology (TESU GEO-151: Physical Geology)
Nutrition 101: Science of Nutrition (TESU BIO-208: The Science of Nutrition)
Business 101: Principles of Management (TESU MAN-301: Principles of Management)
Business 102: Principles of Marketing (TESU MAR-301: Introduction to Marketing)
Business 104: Info Systems & Computer Applications (TESU CIS-102: Intro to Computer Information Systems)

Completed from Other Sources: 2 cr each, 4 cr total
312N-H Ethics & the CPCU Code of Professional Conduct (TESU PHI-384 Ethics and the Business Professional)
Cybersecurity 101 (TESU CAP-295: Intro to Security Basics)

In Progress: 3 cr each, 6 cr total
Study.com: Business 109: Intro to Computing (TESU COS-101: Introduction to Computers) - he will test in 2 weeks
Community College: English 101 Eng Composition (TESU ENC-101 English Composition)

Tentatively Planned for Study.com (through January 2017 – may not get to them all): 3cr each
Business 105: Labor Relations (TESU LAS-321: Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining)
Business 106: Human Resource Management (TESU MAN-331: Human Resources Management)
Business 107: Organizational Behavior (TESU MAN-311: Organizational Behavior)
Business 111: Principles of Supervision (TESU MAN-201: Principles of Supervision)
Business 309: Digital Marketing & Advertising (TESU MAR-441: Marketing With Digital & Social Media)
Business 311: Project Management (TESU MAN-435: Project Management)

I have concerns about Principles of Supervision because I saw a note on TESU saying the course was too basic to count for BSBA degree. Please advise me.

Tentatively planned other credits:
English 102 - community college – 3 cr
Cybersecurity 201 – 2cr
Cybersecurity 301 – 2cr
NFA – 3 cr
Straighterline Intro to Communications (TESU speech requirement?)
ALEKS Intro to Statistics (TESU Statistic requirement for BSBA?)

If he does everything above, it will be 86 credits. In the meantime, he’ll work in the remaining high school credits he needs to graduate. What do you recommend as the path forward? Is TESU BSBA GM the best/easiest/fastest option at this point? Should we consider TAMUC Org. Leadership? Am I making the best use of his remaining Study.com subscription? What classes and from what source do we need going forward? Quickest & easiest please for Andrew’s personality. Thank you ALL and my humblest apologies if I have overstepped.

TESU caps credit from a single source at 90 cr, so watch for that with Study.com. I don't see Macro or Micro Econ or Fin or Man accounting.

You are correct.
I need guidance on the best/easiest/quickest ways to get those credits and all the remaining credits. I really need someone to put together a degree plan for me. I know that's a lot to ask, but I seem to have reached the limit of what I can do.

An observation: courses that require one to practice a skill in learning how to do certain types of calculations, such as math courses, chemistry, accounting, finance, seem to take more time to complete. Study.com might not be the best source for those, given the extra time one would need to put into the course. I wish some of the computation-based courses came with worksheets to practice those skills. This is an assumption I am making. I really need to know which classes he still needs and where is the best place to get those credits going forward.

I probably don't have anything too helpful to add myself since I'm neither a business major nor do I go to TESC. But what are his post-degree goals? Anything that would require a GPA (like graduate school or applying to officers candidate school in the military)? That is going to be the downfall of earning credits through Study.com- they are usually on the transcript as 'P' rather than a weighted grade. It is awesome he has gotten through so much at 15 though!

First, I want to say that you need to make sure you don't take more than 90cr from Study.com. Second, you should maximize what you take there, to make sure that you get courses that aren't available elsewhere (less Gen Ed's, more Core/OAS courses).

Study.com: Business 109: Intro to Computing (TESU COS-101: Introduction to Computers) - he will test in 2 weeks - this is a duplicate of Info Systems, so I wouldn't waste my time/credits on this
Community College: English 101 Eng Composition (TESU ENC-101 English Composition)

Business 111: Principles of Supervision (TESU MAN-201: Principles of Supervision) - this is considered too low-level for the BSBA, so I wouldn't waste my time/credits on this (you're already using up the space in Free Electives with the TEEX courses, so this won't be used at all
Business 309: Digital Marketing & Advertising (TESU MAR-441: Marketing With Digital & Social Media)

Tentatively planned other credits:
English 102 - community college – 3 cr
Cybersecurity 201 – 2cr
Cybersecurity 301 – 2cr
NFA – 3 cr - 1 is a duplicate credit of Human Resources, and 1 is expired since 2013 (whoopsies, ACE screwed that one up), so you should only take Community Safety Educators
Straighterline Intro to Communications (TESU speech requirement?) - Yes, although Study.com is working on getting it bumped from 2cr to 3cr by the end of the year (they just posted in this forum)
ALEKS Intro to Statistics (TESU Statistic requirement for BSBA?) - Yes, and take Intermediate Algebra as well, you need an additional math course and that one will be free and easy since he already passed College Algebra.

I would recommend he take the following Study.com courses:
BUS 308: Globalization & International Management (hard to find elsewhere for less)
FIN 101: Principles of Finance (hard to find elsewhere for less)
ACC 101: Financial Accounting
ACC 102: Managerial Accounting
ACC 301: Applied Managerial Accounting OR ACC 302: Advanced Accounting (or both)
BUS 103: Business Law
ECO 102: Macroeconomics
Business Communication (just got upgraded to 3cr)

If he doesn't take both UL accounting courses, then I would recommend Strategic Human Resource Management (piggybacking on HRM) or else Saylor's Business Statistics course, after finishing ALEKS' Intro to Stats.

Here's a spreadsheet to help you. Dark blue is what he's already taken, light blue is IP or planned. I included an extra column to show Study.com credits so you don't go over 90.

Concerning his age and TESU, this thread might be helpful: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-thomas-edison-charter-oak-specific/12091-tesc-asba-under-21-graduation-questions.html

Andrew doesn't know his college or career goals. He likes math & science, so possibly engineering, possibly pharmacy...he really doesn't know. He will probably begin Calculus at local CC next fall 2017. I'm hoping that the BSBA will look good on a resume, plus enable him to skip the general education requirements in whatever degree he decides to pursue, which will most likely be another bachelor's, but I don't know. And who knows, it might give him a leg-up later on if he is a candidate for a supervisory position. This is my oldest child and we're still trying to find our way.

When I said "maximize", I didn't mean to maximize the number of credits at Study.com, but to maximize their usefulness by taking courses that are hard to find inexpensively elsewhere. Specifically: Intro to Finance (if you don't want to take the DSST), International Business (if you don't want to take the TECEP or TCC exam), Digital Marketing (nowhere else to take this, and a good way to get the MAR course you need in the AOS).

Dfrecore,
Thank you so much! Let me print the plan you sent and get back with you with questions. One concern I have about the alternate Study.com classes that you proposed is that I'm thinking he can't finish each of those in 2 weeks due to their difficulty and length. He tries to knock out a course every 2 weeks, but that's at an average of 10 videos/day and a LOT of note-taking. Wouldn't accounting, finance, and economics be more difficult to digest and learn than some of the more traditional business courses? As it so happens, economics is one of the credits he still needs to graduate high school, so there's an upside there. He's carrying a full load with the "killer" English 101 at local CC, then courses at home of physics, calculus, New Testament, piano and two sports. The sports and home courses are all his choice. If he didn't have his other high school courses, I think he could knock out something like Business Law (173 videos) in 2 weeks.
Thank you for making me aware of the upgrade of Business Communication to 3cr.
Does ALEKS Into to Statistics not meet the TESU Statistics requirement for BSBA? Saylor's Business Statistics course isn't a duplication?
I'm sorry if my questions are naïve. I will go now and study the degree plan you prepared for us. THANK YOU!!!!!

wandac Wrote:Does ALEKS Into to Statistics not meet the TESU Statistics requirement for BSBA? Saylor's Business Statistics course isn't a duplication?

The ALEKS course meets the math requirement. The Saylor course is for a different purpose -- it comes in as an upper level management course in the AoS, not as a math course, so most people take both. They do not duplicate.
