COSC and Saylor Courses? - strawberryxfuzz - 10-24-2016

Hello. I've been working on knocking out some exams and want to go through COSC for my Business Administration degree . I took a few Saylor courses (Principles of Management, Marketing, Biology, Chem and Business Ethics) as I've been following the degreeforum.wiki Sample as a guide. Saylor courses have been very cost efficient so I was wondering what other Saylor courses are accepted by COSC? I see some are ACE approved on their website under 'partners', but they also have COSC listed as a partner, but different courses listed as approved. So, I'm a little confused as to what they will accept. I sent an e-mail, but never received a response.

When you visit the Saylor website, click on the "earn college credit" list. All of the NCCRS and ACE courses count. Be sure they count in your specific degree plan. Earn College Credit | Saylor Academy

Does COSC recognize ALL of the ACE approved credits?

They always "recognize" ACE and NCCRS credit - it's just a matter of where they will fit into your degree plan. So that's what you need to do, is figure out where they will fit before you take them. That part I can't help with, as I'm not familiar with COSC.

COSC and Saylor Courses? - KayV - 10-24-2016

Here is how they will transfer.
Charter Oak State College | Saylor Academy

Principles of Management COSC MGT 101 Principles of Management

Marketing COSC MKT 220 Principles of Marketing

Biology COSC BIO 110 Biology 1 for non-majors

Chem COSC CHE 101 Chemistry Survey for non-majors

Business Law and Ethics COSC Free elective; does not meet any General Education requirements
Can be used as partial fulfillment of the Charter Oak ethics requirement

*********
I wonder if COSC would accept the Business Law and Ethics along with The Institutes Insurance Ethics (2 cr., $0.00) to complete the ethics requirement?

short answer yes. Your word choice (recognize) is what is confusing. But like Dfrecore and I are saying, COSC will accept the credit, but it's up to you to be sure it fits. Here's what I mean:

You have 200 regionally accredited credits in math - all kinds of math. High math, low math, lot's of math with the right kind of accreditation.
You want to complete a bachelor's degree in Underwater Basket Weaving. That degree requires 1 math course ( 3 cr.) and allows for 4 courses of general electives (12 cr.). So, in total, you only have 5 courses (15 cr.) worth of slots- so EVEN THOUGH all of the math is "recognized" and accepted, the fact that the your degree doesn't have slots open means it has no where to go. So, 15 cr. come in and the other 185 "won't transfer" in. You can't use the math courses to meet other requirements (psychology, English, computers, etc.) Again, there is nothing wrong with the credit in this sample, it's the open slots limit you.

So, all of the ACE and NCCRS credit options through Saylor are accepted- the question is if you can use them in your degree. Looks like KayV posted the link that will help you look that up.

Good luck!!

(PS anywhere that offers ACE and NCCRS are also going to be accepted at COSC, Saylor isn't special in that regard)

Thank you everyone for your help and sorry if my wording made it confusing. The reason I was confused is because on Saylors wesbite, going under 'Partner Schools' ( I provided a link) it goes like this for Charter Oak:

Charter Oak State College | Saylor Academy

BIO101: Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology
BUS203: Principles of Marketing
BUS204: Business Statistics
BUS205: Business Law & Ethics
BUS208: Principles of Management
BUS210: Corporate Communications
CHEM101: General Chemistry I
CS101: Introduction to Computer Science I
MA001: Beginning Algebra
MA005: Calculus I
POLSC201: Introduction to Western Political Thought

And this for ACE: Alternative Credit Project

BIO101: Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology (ACPE-0023)
BUS101: Introduction to Business (ACPE-0107)
BUS103: Introduction to Financial Accounting (ACPE-0113)
BUS203: Principles of Marketing (ACPE-0127)
BUS205: Business Law and Ethics (ACPE-0099)
BUS208: Principles of Management (ACPE-0123)
BUS210: Corporate Communication (ACPE-0006)
CHEM101: General Chemistry I (ACPE-0034)
MA001: College Algebra (ACPE-0016)
MA005: Calculus I (ACPE-0015)
MA121: Introduction to Statistics (ACPE-0017)
PHYS101: Introduction to Mechanics (ACPE-0008)
PHYS102: Introduction to Electromagnetism (ACPE-0007)
POLSC221: Introduction to Comparative Politics (ACPE-0071)

But then using this link:

Earn College Credit | Saylor Academy

it shows 19 courses being ACE approved, rather then the 14 in the list above. This is why I'm confused, because Saylors website has different information regarding what they give credit for?

For example, I still need to take Principles of Macroeconomics which is 3 credits and a pre-requisite for the degree in Business Administration. I took the Microeconomics CLEP and passed, but its much cheaper to go through Saylor. This link: Earn College Credit | Saylor Academy shows the course as being ACE approved, however the course is not listed under Charter Oak or ACE in either of these links:

The Saylor Macroeconomics course is currently approved by ACE for 3 credit hours. There are no guarantees, but from experience at COSC, you are extremely likely to get credit for this course, and it should apply as you are hoping for the Business Major.

One reason that it may not be on the COSC list is that it looks like this course may have been reviewed by ACE later than those listed, and the chart has not been updated.
