I just wanted to let you know that both SL and study.com have informed me that they allow under 13 year olds to take courses for college credit. They have to manually enter something, but it is possible. With the possibility of CLEP (process for under 13 year olds now described on the College Board website) it opens up many opportunities for 10-12 year olds. Penn Foster wrote that students have to be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma. I remember cookderosa writing that she knows of someone who passed a CLEP at 9 years old. Someone here wrote that their 11 year old child already has 12 college credits. I wonder what TESU's policy on age waivers is. I think flyingace got an age waiver from TESU at age 15 and with 90 credit hours under her belt.

Apparently, shmoop, straighterline and study.com all allow under 13 year olds to take classes with them, but you cannot sign up for an account with ACE until you are 13. I have emailed them to see if there is a way around it, but have not heard yet.

I recall someone on here saying Brigham Young University didn't have any age restrictions for their independent study college classes.

I messaged them a while back specifically regarding their Indy study classes - they confirmed no age restrictions.

How much are those BYU independent study courses? So I understand that BYU credits would be sent directly to TESY, without ACE? How about CSU Global CBE, is there an age restriction and do they transfer via ACE?

I looked into BYU for myself- 3 credit classes were $550 plus textbooks. That is pretty good for a private university. I saw they actually have some non credit free courses too. Since you homeschool that could be something worth looking at.

Since BYU is a college, yes, ACE wouldn't be in the loop- there would be a regular college transcript. I don't know about the other schools, sorry!

CSU Global is also a normal college, ACE would not be involved there either. I don't know about their potential age restrictions, though.

I contacted ACE about setting up an account for someone under 13yo and their response was,
"If you wish to create an account for your child under 13 years old, you will need to do so over the phone.
We can be reached toll free at 1-866-205-6267.
Our hours of operations are Monday- Friday 8:45 AM - 4:45 PM EST."
