SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - jadae@wgu.edu - 04-27-2017 I am so p***** right now. The lab I was going to do this morning requires me to chew gum to remove the sugars from it. I have postprandial reactive hypoglycemia. What kind of sick joke is this? Did they not think this one through? I don't want to become hyperactive, then very tired, the pass out, then wake up shaky and foggy? I don't want to waste a day just for a silly lab. So... meh. Just meh. What do I do? Call up. "Yeah, I can't do your lab, because I have some stupid snow flake disorder that I never asked for." Would that even fly? I know this isn't optimal but can't you have someone else chew the gum for you? I am assuming the lab part comes after the gum is chewed and the sugars are removed? SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - jadae@wgu.edu - 04-27-2017 I calmed down and thought about that option. I think because I have a 95% already, I will purposely botch this lab, get half credit, and move on. Its the least mentally stressful tactic, I think :[ Thinking about dietary lifestyle is already annoying and stressful enough, and talking/thinking about it is usually something I prefer to avoid. SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - jadae@wgu.edu - 04-27-2017 Some of these labs are seriously on crack, though. Lab 3 states you need a centimeter ruler. One of the tasks is to measure the length of your room. LOL! SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - Ancapman - 04-27-2017 You could also get someone else to chew the gum for you. SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - BrandeX - 04-27-2017 Sugar free gum? SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - bluebooger - 04-27-2017 jadae@wgu.edu Wrote:... SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - jadae@wgu.edu - 04-27-2017 bluebooger Wrote:why don't you just chew more gum at that stage ? I have this disorder cause by a larger disorder. A type of autoimmunity I'm not willing to go into. It literally does not work like that. What will happen, is my glucose will spike to 200 or so for awhile, and then it will plummet to 40 or so for even longer, which usually results in either a very strange loopy state or passing out (you're only thought its that everything feels heavy). This is turn makes it harder to manage the disorder causing all of this, and disrupts the entire day and usually following days. I called SL, and they said someone else could chew it for me. I said I am not going across town to a friend for this, and then I reminded them that I was protected by ADA and that it was wrong of SL to even ask me to do that. She immediately gave me the contact information to change my lab. I'll deal with this later. While this may seem trivial to some people, it is a violation of ADA, and not very funny for those of us that have to deal with this for the rest of our lives. On the 1st, I have to go to the endocrinologist. I have seen a variation of specialists every 1-3 months since I was 19, and will until I pass away. So this is just *another* time dump and obstacle that they should know better to put into their scholastic programming. SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - sanantone - 04-28-2017 He's being facetious. SL: Chem Lab ******!!!! - cookderosa - 04-28-2017 this IS a joke post, right? That 5 grams of glucose is causing a medical reaction that in some way differs from when you eat food....every day? Unless you're on a feeding tube, I think the lab is reasonable- of course, I'm not a REGISTERED dietitian, so I'd never dispense medical dietary advice, especially in writing. Still, I'm sure you can figure out a way around it without invoking ADA protection. |
