TESU - BALS or BA in ENGLISH? - CarpeDiem8 - 08-18-2017 Hey, guys! Right now, my path is set for BALS, but I think I'd actually enjoy majoring in English. I'd love to switch. Does anyone know off-hand if I can satisfy all UL credits through Schmoop, Study.com, and SL? Thanks! Danielle RE: TESU - BALS or BA in ENGLISH? - davewill - 08-18-2017 Shmoop has almost all of them. The only English requirement we've been unable to find cheaply is Non-Western Lit. There are a few places you can find it for $2-300 or so a credit, though. In my mind, well worth it to get the degree you actually want instead of settling. I've attached a BA English spreadsheet I did for my daughter. You should be able to adapt it for your own needs. RE: TESU - BALS or BA in ENGLISH? - n2yoga - 08-18-2017 You need 15 UL English/Lit courses. Non-Western Literature is the only requirement you can't get through the usual sources. This course needs to be taken at a college. Cheapest we have found is College of Dupage has a 12-week online course for around $500, however, it is a lower level course and will not count towards your 15-hour requirement. TESU & University of Texas have online UL courses but they are more expensive. BYU online has offered a course for around $500 in the past but the current offering is a Non-Western Poetry in Translation- I'm not sure how it would transfer. CLEP exams can be used for the requirements in American Literature (Survey) and A&I Lit. They all come in as lower level courses. The UL options I am aware of are: Advanced Technical Writing at Study.com is UL through 12/31/17 Shmoop University - Holocaust Literature, Modernist Literature, Literature in the Media, Women's Literature, Shakespeares Plays If anyone else knows of other UL options I would love to have that information. Has anyone taken Victorian Literature at Shmoop and had it transfer as UL? My advisor says it will transfer as LL because ACE has it listed as LL. I tried to get a different World Lit course and it was turned down so I did not consider the UT course. UT would be preferable because I believe it is self-paced, correct? RE: TESU - BALS or BA in ENGLISH? - rlw74 - 08-18-2017 Regarding the UT World Lit course...I tried to get it approved a couple months ago and they said no. Of course, TESU isn't always consistent. I'm not saying someone else shouldn't try but I know it was a no not that long ago. RE: TESU - BALS or BA in ENGLISH? - davewill - 08-18-2017 No, she ended up not pursuing TESU. I guess another alternative needs to be found. You rock! (08-18-2017, 11:19 AM)davewill Wrote: Shmoop has almost all of them. The only English requirement we've been unable to find cheaply is Non-Western Lit. Ok, worse comes to worse, I can take TESU's course at the Study.com discount, looks like it would be $1098.00. Omph. Omph. That's a lot. A couple weeks ago, someone posted an approved one for under $500. Shmoop Lit courses can be frustrating, but they are so cheap
RE: TESU - BALS or BA in ENGLISH? - rlw74 - 08-18-2017 Do you know which one? I never did find one that cheap. Most of the courses that used to be $500 had doubled their prices by the time I looked a couple months ago. TESU confirmed that the College of Dupage Non-Western Literature online course (ENGLI2262) will count. However, it is a 200-level course. Course cost is $463 plus $20 application fee. 22+ACT score or College Comp 2 is required as a prerequisite. 12 Week course, offered in Fall and Spring. Uses 4 books: Eva Luna, Waiting for the Barbarians, The God of Small Things, Things Fall Apart. Class activities will include weekly discussion, short essay responses, and contributions to our collective online scrapbook (or “wiki”). http://www.cod.edu/course/information/EN...index.html RE: TESU - BALS or BA in ENGLISH? - originalamyj - 08-19-2017 (08-18-2017, 09:56 PM)n2yoga Wrote:(08-18-2017, 05:01 PM)rlw74 Wrote: Do you know which one? Does this mean if you satisfy enough UL credits through shmoop you don't need this to be UL and it's a viable option? Or does that course need to be UL since it's equivalent at TESU is UL? |
