COSC, Excelsior Question - Transfer from one source - Lewis.Yim - 01-22-2018

Good Afternoon!  COSC emailed my info, waiting for Excelsior evaluation.  I looked at the information in my preliminary evaluation and have a few questions. Thank you again for those who can try to assist in answering them.

Does the school have a transfer limit from one particular source?  Example, 90 credits max from alternative methods or exams such as CLEP?  I am going to be completing a few ACE recommended for credit courses from Saylor, Shmoop, and Study.com, then sending my transcripts.

I will be sending in NFA/FEMA/TEEX too.  Can I send all transcripts from those through ACE or can it be sent in directly from the course providers?   Is there a time limit before I start enrolling?  In other words, is there a specific date I have to enroll at Charter Oak or Excelsior, can I finish those first?

Note: I am doing a BALS NSM at TESU, but thinking of changing that something easier if I get more credits at COSC/EC.
COSC Bachelors in General Studies - Info Systems Studies and the Excelsior BS Professional Studies - Info Technology.

I'm only going to answer what I know (being that I know virtually nothing about EC and COSC).

CLEP and DSST should come directly from there to the school. If you have already taken the tests, then you need to request transcripts. If you haven't yet taken a test, then you can request that the scores be sent to the school when at the time of the exam.

NFA & TEEX have some ACE-recommended courses. Those go to ACE. FEMA is no longer ACE-recommended (I don't think), so I'm not sure how you get those to COSC. EC won't take FEMA credits directly.

Saylor, Shmoop, Study.com, SL - for ACE-recommended courses, you can send those to your ACE transcript. For NCCRS-recommended courses, you go straight to the school (NCCRS does not have a transcript system like ACE does). SL and Study.com will send transcripts directly to their partner schools for free, saving you money - but you'll still want anything that can go to ACE to go to ACE.

COSC/EC will probably not be easier, unless you have some previous credits that TESU isn't putting in your degree for some reason. The 30cr of UL is a bit of a hassle, especially for someone who already has a bunch of LL credits (like from a CC). And a lot of the courses you're doing count as UL at TESU, but won't at COSC But it certainly can't hurt to see what their evals look like.

FEMA IS courses have never been ACE-recommended.

Order an official FEMA EMI IS Transcript to be sent to COSC.

You're right, I couldn't remember exactly what happened with those courses.  TESU just decided not to accept them any longer, but they were never ACE-recommended.  Jeez, my 47yo brain just ain't what it used to be!

Update: Here's the response I had with the questions above that I sent to COSC.  It confirms what I was thinking.

Glad you had a chance to review the advising worksheet. While we do offer all the courses you need to complete your degree online, you may pursue any other approved credit sources to fulfill degree requirements. There is no limit set on one particular source other than the specific content available. You do have some additional general education requirements to complete which can be accomplished with the ACE evaluated programs you mention.

You can either send in the individual transcripts, or have all the credit compiled on an ACE transcript and then send that official copy to us. Your application is active for 6 months which takes you right to July. Hopefully by then you will have finished so that you can start immediately with our first course IDS 101 Cornerstone Seminar. At that time, you will also be assigned an academic advisor who will work with you on final degree planning. Let me know if you have more questions.

From what I gather, you can send in all credits from ACE providers and complete the Cornerstone/Capstone.  Where can I find the following courses for cheap? https://www.charteroak.edu/prospective/programs/concentrations/informationsystemsstudies.php

While waiting for Excelsior:  Anyone know what UL credits can be used for COSC or the Excelsior program below?

There are tons of options for a lot of these, too many to list. I will tell you which ones I don't know:
Logic
Computer Organization

IS/IT - CLEP, Study.com, SL
Stats - DSST, Study.com, SL, Saylor
Database Mgmt - CSU-Global CBE
Systems Analysis & Design - CSU-Global CBE
Computer Networking - TECEP, Saylor
SW Engineering - Saylor
Accounting, Mgmt, Mkt, Fin - many many options
Electives: MIS through Study.com, Saylor, DSST, Ed4Credit
Cybersecurity - DSST

Others are out there I'm sure, esp through Saylor, CSU-Global - I would get all of the above preapproved since we don't know how courses will come into COSC.
