Big 3 and acceptance into top tier MS in IT - paulieb - 03-25-2018
First post on the forum, I'd like to thank everyone for the incredible amount of knowledge and guidance I've been able to soak up over the past week.
I notice many users have stated in posts or in their signatures that they went from an undergraduate degree from one of the Big 3 / WGU to a graduate degree from another one of the Big 3 / WGU.
I'm have half or so of my credits for my AA from past courses in a community college. I'm on here looking for an accelerated path to my BS as I've hit a glass ceiling at work with no degree. I'd like to head a slightly different path when I finish my undergraduate, I'm looking to transfer out of the TESU / WGU (Still Undecided) into one of the top tier schools for a masters in IT.

Does anyone have experience with knowing how the undergraduate degree programs from the Big 3 / WGU are looked at by top tier schools and do they accept them? Are there any considerations for which undergraduate school I choose when looking at the long term goal of my masters?

There are some impressive schools on the list.

I don't remember see much discussion here, but over the years, I have seen people from Techexams mention going from WGU to a more traditional school for an IT related masters.
Are you looking for an IT Masters or a Computer Science Masters?
Best option is to figure out a few masters programs that you are interested in and work your way backwards.

You nailed it, that is the very process I am doing now. I'm currently in IT management so I'm shooting for an MS in IT.

Acceptance into a grad program is not reliant on any one factor. Sure, a CS degree from Berkeley would be a big help, but if you've got work experience, that can be decisive as well.

See if the schools want graded prerequisites or GPA in general. Some Big Three graduates have little or no GPA. If you know you want a Masters that needs grades, then take those specific classes at a regular school. Usually you can still taek them online, but often not self-paced.

Thank you, that's what i figured. I have 20 years experience in IT, currently I've reached VP level in my company that I've been at for a couple years now so I think I am good in that light. I just need to knock out this BS in IT degree so I can eventually move onto my masters. I am looking at an online masters but hopefully from a notable school as once you move up in your career toward CIO, I'd think those things come into play a bit.

Yes I think you nailed it. I'll check into that now, as I'm looking ahead toward masters programs I'd like to be in so I'll review the requirements and make sure any specific classes they require I'll take separately for a grade to boost my GPA because if I'm going to go to a school such as WGU, graduates come out with a 3.0 GPA which from my little research on graduate programs, is not high enough. I'll need some extra A's to pull it up a little more.
