Will COSC follow TESU regarding Shmoop courses - frank.f.franky - 05-04-2018 Who normally follows whom? Who the sets the trend? Never applied to TESU, wish I did, as a backup, to at least get my 15hr. of Shmoop locked in. Did TESU ever have the Shmoop classes listed under the ACP? http://www.alternativecreditproject.com/ Thanks, RE: Will COSC follow TESU regarding Shmoop courses - allvia - 05-05-2018 Shmoop was never part of the ACP. Shmoop credit courses are added to your ACE transcript as Shmoop course number(s). As far as trends with the Big 3 there really is no such thing, they all do their own things and their own rules on what they will or will not accept. RE: Will COSC follow TESU regarding Shmoop courses - dfrecore - 05-05-2018 I haven't noticed that any of the schools try to all do the same things. Part of is is that they're all from different states. Part of it is that they aren't much alike. The only thing they have in common is that they all accept 114-117 credits from non-traditional sources. Some differences: TESU requires 12/15 UL credits, all in the core/AOS; EC and COSC both require 30cr of UL, with some in the major, and some outside of it. TESU doesn't charge per term, EC and COSC do. TESU charges a Residency Waiver fee, EC and COSC don't. COSC accepts FEMA credits, TESU and EC don't (TESU used to but stopped a while ago). COSC requires a cornerstone course that can't be waived, TESU and EC don't (so COSC requires 6cr in residency, TESU and EC only 3cr). EC requires a capstone for many (all?) of their AA's, TESU does for some of them, and COSC doesn't for any of them. COSC requires a lab science course, TESU and EC don't. TESU allows CompSci to be used in the NatSci area (so zero "science" credits required), EC and COSC don't allow this. EC requires higher level math for many degrees than TESU and COSC (business for instance: EC requires Precalc, TESU and COSC only require College Algebra). TESU used to bring in a bunch of ACE/NCCRS-recommended LL courses as UL, COSC and EC stuck with the recommendations; TESU has revamped their policies and has changed this with MOST of the course providers (there are a few exceptions, but those don't usually make a difference in the AOS). RE: Will COSC follow TESU regarding Shmoop courses - Life Long Learning - 05-06-2018 COSC accepts FEMA IS directly Excelsior College allows FEMA IS coming from Community Colleges (FCC, CCC, GCC). TESU does NOT allow FEMA IS credits Excelsior College allows full ACE/FEMA credits from EMI. COSC allows full ACE/FEMA credits from EMI as general credits TESU does NOT full ACE/FEMA credits from EMI Excelsior College allows UL from some Community Colleges LL courses. |
