CLEP Scores only kepts for 20 years? - waterpaper - 06-07-2018

I was at the CLEP website when I came across an article that talked about CLEP test scores and how they're kept for only 20 years. Is it still worth taking a CLEP exam if you're going to lose the results of your test after 20 years have gone by? Should I just focus my sights on other places, like study.com, saylor, straighterline, etc.

Are you planning to take more than 20 years to get your degree? Smile

I know some of us have, but we didn't plan it that way! I wouldn't worry about it.

The year 2040:
Hiring manager, "it says here you have a degree."
Me, "sure do!"
Hiring manager, "well your introduction to sociology clep is expired... Can't hire ya."
Me, "...."

Put them on your ACE Transcript as a backup.  If military put them on your JST transcript also.

Meaning that if you don't use them in some way before you hit the 20-year mark, they are no longer worth college credit for you to initiate a degree. Once you've USED it, you're good forever.

Some might want to complete another degree 20 years later, and they won't be able to get their CLEP scores. I'd put them on an ACE transcript.

I don't think most schools that accept CLEP will accept the ACE transcript with the scores - they want them directly from CLEP. So I think after 20 years, you're stuck.

Do I ask someone from the CLEP website to do the transfers for me or do I head straight to ACE and tell them about the test score I got from my CLEP exams?

What we don't know is exactly how the 20 year expiration is implemented. Maybe it's absolute, it disappears after 20 years. Maybe it's based on 20 years of inactivity so that if you pass a CLEP the 20 year clock restarts.

Oh wow, I guess I need to hurry up and finish my undergrad, I only have 19.5 years left before my scores expire.

I don't think this is really an issue to worry about. In 20 years, the education landscape will look completely different anyway. Most B&M schools have a 10 year limit on courses you take with them. The 20 years from CLEP seems generous.
