Fast Associates - JeniMCha - 06-13-2018
My husband needs an associates in order to speed along his electrical license. He does not have any previous credit. Can anyone tell me the fastest / easiest degree he can do? Or connect me to a thread if the question has already been answered? I'm completely new at this.
He may want to pursue a bachelors after the fact, but the associates degree is needed most.

Can it be any associates or does it need to be technical/electrical related since he's getting an electrical license?

If he's starting completely from scratch, I believe that an AA from COSC or TESU or ASBA from TESU would be fastest. Depending on how much experience/certification he has in electrical field, tesu may Grant him some credit in that area.

Thanks! He did have to do 4 yrs of schooling/internship to get his journeyman electrical license, so that would be awesome. Utah requires you work full time and take the electrical class each semester for 4 yrs to get a journeymans. Then it's 2 yrs of work with an associates or 4 without to get a masters electrical license

Here are spreadsheets for TESU and COSC AA's. I would think which is faster depends on when you can get in for graduation, but they should both be around the same to get courses done (both need 60cr).
You can make both a lot cheaper by using ModernStates/CLEP (free CLEP exams) as well as free FEMA and unlimited Shmoop courses for the COSC degree, Saylor courses where possible, etc.

I'd apply to both and send in whatever certifications or licenses he has. Go ahead and start taking courses that exist on both of Dfrecore's spreadsheets (and aren't likely to be covered by his certs) while you wait for the schools to let you know how many (if any) credits they will grant. Make your decision once you know.
BTW, you mentioned that he had to go to school as well as intern for 4 years. Did that happen at a community or technical college? if so, he may have actual college credit. If he has at least 12 credits, then the Pierpont BOG AAS also comes into play.

If any of his apprenticeship training was with electrical training ALLIANCE, there is college credit for each of their levels. http://electricaltrainingalliance.org/
