Transferring from a Big 3 to a state school - zapproximator - 09-01-2018
Hi1 I'm planning to earn at least my associates degree from Charter Oak/Thomas Edison and then transfer to my state school. The problem is that the state school requires that the credit you transfer be graded - and I'm not sure how they would see CLEP on my transcript. Would the fact that any passing CLEP score is at least a C count? '
Have any of you had any trouble transferring from a Big 3 school to a "traditional" school?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Pretty sure CLEPs show as p/f on big 3 transcripts. You may want to look into the CLEP specific policies at the schools you have in mind.
Also, TESU isn't admitting people under 21, so you may be stuck with just COSC.

All ACE/NCCRS/CLEP/DSST/TECEP, etc are out of the picture, since none are graded (which would mean that your school will only take courses from other schools, not course providers). If there is a CLEP policy at your school (check) then at least you could bring those in. CSU schools in CA will take many CLEP exams (although no DSST, or other ACE), but UC's won't take any. Not sure what state you're in.
Normally, The Big 3 are schools you transfer into, not out of.

Dfrecore is right, the big 3 are where you would send your associates degree that you earned at your state school, not the other way around.
Every credit you earn and send to one of the big 3 will be on your big 3 transcript as a transfer or credit by exam credit - in other words, it is unlikely that ANY college in the country will accept credit that they wouldn't otherwise accept on their own anyway (which if true, then you're using the big 3 as an expensive middle man for no reason).
IMO, your plan needs to be reworked.

You can always get your BA/BS at one of the Big 3 and use that for admissions for an In-State Masters program instead.

Or even try for a second bachelor's at a state school. But the same restrictions may apply.

Would it be hard to get into a good grad school straight out of a Big 3 school? Especially if you don't have awesome letters of recommendation from well-known profs/researchers and a lot of your transcript is from CLEP? Thanks!

It really depends on what a "good grad school" is to you? Depends upon the school, the field, etc. Some grad schools (like medical field) are going to require graded b& m credits for their pre req courses. Again you'd really just have to look at individual requirements at the schools AND programs you have in mind.

Thanks so much! I'm honestly not quite sure yet (I'm in high school right now). I just want to keep my options open. I'm considering a masters in computer science or statistics. I'm also definitely interested in medicine (come from a family of 'em lol) but I'm not so sure that I'd love it so much I'd be willing to sacrifice all of my twenties. But I for sure want to keep that option open. Thanks again for your help!
