Amberton - best transfer credits - jb111 - 09-24-2018

Hi.  Is VESI the only graduate credit Amberton will accept?  I read the thread where Kevinmane outlines the VESI process.  When I try to register, they ask for state and institution.  Do I just pick my local state or Texas (where Amberton is located).  They ask here http://www.virtualeduc.com/universities.php
Thank you

He posted that you take them through Augustana University, SD in his original post  here is the link he had for it as well,   https://www.virtualeduc.com/direct_accounts/index.php?uid=1

Here is the link to the original post made by kevinmane for those may not be aware of what we're taking about Smile

Thanks.  That link is working for me.  The link I had kept asking me which state I was registering from.

To answer your first question, Amberton will consider accepting all kinds of graduate credit from other places. If you found and took a course somewhere that was regionally accredited and was counted as graduate-level credit, you could send it to Amberton and they'd likely accept it.

For instance, if you took a course at American Military University (and got at least a B in it), you could transfer it to Amberton.

But that wouldn't make sense because AMU's credits are $350/each while Amberton's like $270/each.

The reason everyone recommends doing VESIs for graduate credit is because it's one of the easiest/cheapest/fastest options to get some quick grad credit. The requirements for Amberton's Professional Development MA degree allow for prior grad credits to be in almost any subject - AND they take up to 12 credits.

So it's one of the best systems available to be able to do quick/easy/cheap VESIs and get 12 credits over and done with instead of having to take and pay for full on courses somewhere else or Amberton itself.

So if you happen to find a cheaper or easier or faster way to grab some grad-credits elsewhere, please let us know! Smile

The Poetry in America courses through Harvard Extension School are cheaper at $200 for 4 credit hours + $50 registration fee. However, after having taken 1 this summer and currently being enrolled in 2, I can not say that they are easy at all! However, they are excellent courses!

kevinmane pointed out the Amberton would only accept 3 credit courses as transfer in the original thread - https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Amberton-s-M-A-Prof-Development-just-graduated?pid=246934#pid246934

Thanks for that information. I have discovered the continuing education classes at Fresno Pacific University. They go on the transcript as graduate level and there is a HUGE variety of classes and they are subject specific, not just education based. They are targeted to teachers, but anyone can take them. If you get on their email list, they will let you know of any discounts available. I have my eye on a couple of literature courses and a teaching writing course, after I finish the Poetry in America series through HES.

However, they are NOT cheaper than VESI. They seem to range from $400-$500 for a 3 hour graduate level class.
