TESU Undergraduate Certificates - mysonx3 - 10-11-2018

Part of me is considering getting the Psychology undergrad certificate since I planned on taking a couple Psych electives anyway, but I saw something on here about how if you're not doing it at the same time as a Bachelor's you have to take 1/2 of the classes through TESU. I'm wondering what is meant by "at the same time as a Bachelor's". Do you have to get them both in the same graduation cycle, or just get the undergraduate certificate while working on a Bachelor's? Also, would a TECEP/ePack count as taking the class through TESU for this purpose?

It says you have to be a degree-seeking student, but I'm not certain if they will let you get a certificate before your degree. You would have to check on that. BUT, you would have to pay the residency waiver, and it would be kind of crazy to spend $2200 extra for a cert, so I personally wouldn't do it, even if it was possible.

No, TECEP's do not count towards residency. Yes, ePacks do - because those are the same price as an online or guided study course.

It appears that there is no requirement of earning a degree to gain an undergrad certificate. One just needs to be enrolled as a degree-seeking student to qualify.

In another thread, DIGI-212, who enrolled as a degree-seeking student for a second BA, will be granted an undergrad certificate in December without having the second degree near completion. In the same thread it was indicated that the residency waiver paid for the initial degree was able to be applied against the certificate, even though it was like 9 months later.

So if someone is seeking to graduate with a bachelors degree and wants a cert early, apparently one could apply for and have a certificate awarded while still working towards the bachelors. The residency waiver would still need to be paid, but it should work for the cert and the degree, even if they occur in different graduation cycles.

I agree with dfrecore though, if you're not looking to get a degree, there is no reason to pay the RW just for a certificate.

RE: TESU Undergraduate Certificates - mysonx3 - 10-17-2018

So a couple questions regarding this specific certificate:

1. For the requirement "Select 6 credits from the following: PSY-352 Psychology of Personality, PSY-360 Organizational Theory, PSY-363 Industrial Psychology", I know that Study.com's Psychology of Personality is supposed to come in as PSY-352, so there's 3 of the 6 credits. Anyone know of anything that could be used for the last 3? Neither of the other two categories is part of the Psychology area of study, so JSD's Psychology degree plan on the wiki doesn't cover it. Study.com has Industrial/Organizational Psychology, which is kind of a combo of the two, but since it comes in as PSY-401, do you think they would allow it to count for this requirement?

2. For Social Psychology, does it have to be PSY-379 (TESU's Social Psychology), or would something that comes in as PSY-370 (TESU's Social Psychology I) do the trick? Assuming it has to be PSY-379, anyone know any options?

Study.com has these:
BUS 323: Organizational Theory >>PSY-360
PSY 301: Industrial/Organizational Psychology >> PSY-400 but should work for PSY-363

I also have the question on Social Psychology - Study.com has:
PSY 104: Social Psychology >>PSY-237
PSY 316: Advanced Social Psychology >> PSY-245
I'm curious to know if it's enough that they both come in separately, even though neither is UL?  As long as there are 18cr of UL in the AOS, will these work?

RE: TESU Undergraduate Certificates - jsd - 10-17-2018

Assuming the certificate social psych requirement is the same as the BA Pysch social pysch requirement, there’s nothing in the BA plan that indicates Soc Psych weds to be UL so the two Study.com courses would work.

Thanks, dfrecore! Didn't think to check the business section of the TESU transfer page for Organizational Theory. One step closer to a functional plan should I decide to pull the trigger on this certificate.

I'm assuming you're talking about the BA, not the certificate, since the certificate only requires 3 Social Psych credits. In that case, my understanding (though I'm certainly not an expert) is that those two fill that requirement, as long as you get enough UL elsewhere in the AOS.

The requirement is definitely different, in that only three Social Psych credits are required. The reason I'm thinking those three credits have to be UL is that the credit distribution specifically lists course numbers for all courses (PSY-379 in this case) rather than generic requirements like the BA credit distribution. I'm not sure how strict they would be with those course numbers (for instance, would PSY-370 aka Social Psychology I work, or does it HAVE to be PSY-379 aka Social Psychology). I'm thinking they would probably accept a slight substitution (i.e. PSY-370 instead of 379) but thinking they probably wouldn't let you do a LL course instead of an UL. But I don't really know any of that, just guessing.

So the Certificate doesn't have an "AOS," and I've never seen any mention of LL vs. UL requirements.  It is REALLY hard for me to figure out the certificates at TESU.

If you find out anything from them, please post back here.

RE: TESU Undergraduate Certificates - jsd - 10-18-2018

My guess is they would accept LL from Study.com, but it is definitely just a guess. If they NEED a UL for Soc Psych, the UExcel is UL
