ALEKS - mysonx3 - 10-15-2018

Can someone give me the summary of what I need to know about taking ALEKS courses for credit? My understanding is that there were some changes to this recently so I'm worried I might be reading outdated info.

Well, they are now approved for ACE credit through 2020, I'd like to hear about this too! All of my personal experience with ALEKS is outdated.

You have to score 70% mastery, same as previous. This can be done through the initial knowledge check if you score high or by working through the course materials afterwards. You then request an ace knowledge check (another test) and need to score at least 70%. After that, you can submit the request for credit.

The only difference from previous is that you can't submit the request for credit right away after obtaining 70%. You need to do this ace knowledge check first, which is a bit annoying.

Thanks for the info, zzzz24. I understand there are some rules about which courses you can't take both of because they overlap too much, but does that mean they both would come in as the same thing at TESU, or would they come in differently but you can't take both?

Is there a chart somewhere like some providers have of how ALEKS courses transfer in to TESU?

I am not sure on the different math combinations for TESU, but it shows on the Aleks site what can be taken in terms of combinations for ACE credit

ACE CREDIT-RECOMMENDED ALEKS COURSES:
College Algebra
Trigonometry
College Algebra with Trigonometry
PreCalculus
Introduction to Statistics
Business Statistics
Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences

*Students cannot receive ACE credit for both of the courses in the following combinations:
College Algebra and College Algebra with Trigonometry
College Algebra and PreCalculus
College Algebra with Trigonometry and Trigonometry
Trigonometry and PreCalculus
College Algebra with Trigonometry and PreCalculus
Introduction to Statistics and Business Statistics
Introduction to Statistics and Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences
Business Statistics and Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences

Another difference, according to some recent posts (not my personal experience), is that the for credit knowledge checks are now done in a "lock down" browser, so they're no longer "open book" (which i think was a big draw for a low of folks using ALEKS, to be honest).

Another way to put this, here's what you CAN take:

College Algebra
Trigonometry
Any single stats course

It doesn't matter what TESU will take at this point (in terms of if they would take more) because ACE won't put anything else on your transcript.

I think it made more sense when ACE just did them all separately, and then would let schools make the decisions on what they would accept.
