Capstone requirement change at TESU - Merlin - 11-24-2018 Apparently, TESU is changing its capstone policy next year... Quote:Effective January 1, 2019, Baccalaureate students will not be permitted to register for a capstone course unless they have 100 credits applied toward the requirements for the declared degree and a GPA of 2.0 or higher. This change means that you will need to be pretty close to the end of your degree program before you can register for the capstone. I'm not sure if the 2.0 GPA prereq is new or not. If so, I'm not sure how that impacts people who don't have a GPA because all their credits are without a letter grade (like CLEP/ACE/foreign credit). According to TESU's policy on grading, those types of courses come in as CR (credit) and aren't factored into the GPA. Maybe they'll waive that requirement for people without a GPA, but if not, that could mean that alt-ed folks like us will have to take (or transfer in) a class with RA graded credits to earn a C or better before one may register for the capstone. Perhaps this ties into the new cornerstone requirement coming in next July, since SOC-110 is a normal graded credit course. That guarantees a GPA coming into the capstone at least. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - armstrongsubero - 11-24-2018 @Merlin probably someone registered for the course and failed miserably. Or TESU is looking for a way to make extra money. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - TexasTink - 11-24-2018 Dang. Do you happen to know when they open up registration for the February term? I was planning on taking my Capstone then. I don't have any graded credit since the cornerstone doesn't count so I need to register before this takes effect! I could possibly take the January term and finish the rest afterwards if need be. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - armstrongsubero - 11-24-2018 @TexasTinx If it starts from Jan 1st. Tou need to register now for the December term. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - TexasTink - 11-24-2018 I was thinking that if I registered before Jan. 1st, I would still be okay. Is that not the case? There are plenty of openings for December, but I'm not at all prepared with topics or anything else. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - armstrongsubero - 11-24-2018 @TexasTink you are ready! Just do it and get it over with, no one feels like they are ready for that course. I'm not saying you should do it but I wouldn't risk having to spend more for a course at TESU, or some expensive credits to give you a letter grade. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - vetvso - 11-24-2018 I was not ready and was forced to jump in. Just do it and get it done then you won't have to worry about next year. Also, I am taking SOS-110 now at TESU and will create a separate thread and post info about it. Seems easy so far but a little time-consuming will all of the forum chats. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - zzzz24 - 11-24-2018 None of the lower level or even upper level courses have prepared me for it in my opinion. SDC definitely hasn't made me a better "writer". I really doubt you need actual GPA credit if you have 100+ ACE credits already transferred in. RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - TexasTink - 11-24-2018 I now have an academic advising appt. set up for Tuesday. I plan to ask lots of questions! And try to get my degree mapped out since TESU has yet to receive any of my transcripts. I have a lot to think through the next couple of days... RE: Capstone requirement change at TESU - zzzz24 - 11-24-2018 How do you find your actual GPA in the online services section? Because two of my B&M college credits were transferred in with actual grades, instead of credit. Both were A's, so I am assuming I have met the GPA requirement regardless. |
