Our local CC opened a classroom in a strip mall across the street from my daughter's high school, so they could offer college courses to the HS students. It eventually grew to more and more classrooms, until they bought the entire strip mall and remodeled top to bottom. So not all schools in strip malls are sketchy. Sometimes, schools take the space that's available.
BTW, my daughter's high school started in an office complex, then moved to their own campus at some point when they had the numbers (and money), then they put an elementary school in the office complex, then created a junior high in a nearby strip mall. We have a charter school in the mall. Another in a strip mall across town. Charter schools find empty space with access for their students/families, and off they go!

Good thing there are more colleges to choose from. This just sounds like a college that took advantage of those who wanted an education.

Our local college, Brightwood, owned by the same company is closing and here are a few excerpts of what our newspaper said about it.....hope the link works.

A student took out $13k in student loans for one of these jobs: vocational nurses, medical office specialists, therapeutic health technicians, medical assistants and respiratory therapists!!!
OMG, how stupid can you be!?! Those are basically minimum wage jobs. The local CC's charge $46/cr for these types of degrees. My daughter is thinking Surgical Tech, 39cr + 12cr of prereqs, so $2350 in less than 2 years. No student loans needed, she could easily earn that amount in a single summer or during the school year earning minimum wage before she's done with high school.
An LVN cert would cost about $3,100, Medical Office Professional cert $1,600, Medical Assistant cert $1,350, and a Respiratory Therapist AA $3,700 at the local CC's!
It's sad that predatory schools prey on uniformed people, and get them to pay that kind of money for these low-level degrees/certs that get you an entry-level, low-paying job.

Respiratory therapists and LVNs make decent wages, although, it appears that LVNs are being downgraded to positions that medical assistants can do. But, yeah....$13k for a 10-month program is a lot of money.
CCs just don't have the advertising budgets to compete. I mean, CCs still get plenty of students, but too many people overlook them.

Respiratory Therapists make a decent living. I figure they start somewhere around $40,000 per year and likely go up to about $60,000 per year.
