Study.com UD question - bnm - 12-25-2018

Has anyone taken History of the Vietnam war at Study.com and transferred to Charter Oak?  Its LD but do they count it as UD like DSST?

RE: Study.com UD question - Tedium - 12-25-2018

From my communication with COSC, the transfer page is up to date and they don’t list any of the history credits as UL.

Yes at the point where it states UL or LL those 2 classes are blank, so its unspecified. That is why I asked if anyone had taken it.

I am guessing it should be LL only, as it has only 32 lessons. Not sure UL credits will come so easily.

The number of lessons has nothing to do with the UL vs LL nature of a course, many UL courses are shorter than similar LL courses since they are intended to build on the prior LL course material. At Study.com, for example, UL courses will usually have additional requirements (projects or papers) where the student will have to analyze and interpret information more than just memorizing facts.

Either way, if a course is ACE recommended for LL, then it will probably come in as LL unless the school is making a specific point to accept it as UL. For example, some schools match incoming courses to the closest in their catalog based on learning outcomes/syllabus; this is how LL courses end up as UL. Other schools always match LL to LL and UL to UL, so if they don't have a similar course to use for equivalency, they will create a virtual course to match it.

COSC sticks pretty closely to ACE recommendations, so my best guess is they'll bring it in as LL. And since Study.com has a LL and an UL Vietnam War course, there's no reason COSC would think that they would need to take the LL as UL.

RE: Study.com UD question - Tedium - 12-26-2018

The course equivalency is actually blank, not the UL or LL designation, so I'm thinking that the classes don't transfer at all, LL or UL. That's my read on it anyway.

They probably just haven't evaluated it yet.  There are 2, one UL, the other LL, they will most likely both come in, based on COSC's history or sticking closely to ACE recommendations.

Study.com is always adding courses, sometimes gets LL changed to UL, changes the number of credits.  It would be impossible for COSC to keep up with it all, so I'm sure they do an eval a few times a year, for the new additions and changes, and maybe again if someone actually brings in the courses for credit.  There's not a huge reason for them to do an eval if no one brings in the credit.

Even though the COSC page is blank, you can look them up in ACE's database to see what COSC will assign when they get around to it. In other words, COSC's registrar will use the link below, it's the same link you can use. There's about a 99% chance that they will do exactly what ACE has evaluated it as. Here is the ACE database that has already evaluated both of the Vietnam courses:

History 108: History of the Vietnam War (History 108) Credit Recommendation: In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in history of the Vietnam War (4/16).

History 308: Causes and Effects of the Vietnam War (History 308) Credit Recommendation: In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in history or world history (9/16).

Didn't it used to be UL at TESU? I remember seeing something about super easy UL credit awhile back in this forum.
