University of the People Question - acamp - 03-17-2019
Happy Sunday everyone,
Although University of the People is nationally-accredited, do any of the public school teachers out there (or anyone else that may know) know if public school recognize the University is the People’s Masters degrees for the salary step guide?
Obviously public schools won’t take the degree for certification/endorsement purposes but will they at least recognize it as being a masters degree for the pay bump?

In Michigan, this is contractual. I am president of my association and we have contract language requiring regional accreditation. It has never been an issue in our district. We negotiate completely at the local level and I think that we could negotiate NA. That said, many superintendents and local associations will start with the previous contract or boilerplate from the state school board association or teacher's association. That boilerplate is almost certainly going to include RA language. Also, lawyers review language and my guess is that the lawyers would red flag it. I would avoid NA education degrees.
