I know this has been addressed before, but the threads that came up in my Google search lacked definitive answers. I just got my grade back from the first essay for History 306 (American Civil War Era) and now have enough points to pass the class even with a zero on the second essay. Is it a good/bad idea to submit a very short second essay that doesn't meet the word counts just so it will show as graded so the course can be marked complete? Basically "punting" the second assignment. I'm doing TESU and have no plans to do COSC so my grade on the course doesn't matter.

Thoughts?

Be the test subject and do it!

You should be perfectly fine. Worst case scenario you can always make it better and turn it in later if you want to.

I think it will improve your final grade. Even if you only scored a 50 in your second essay, it would still add to the final evaluation. I tried doing that with my English Comp-2. Without essay-2, I had still passed the course. But submitting essay-2 helped me raise the final score.

My son just did this with an assignment at our local CC.  He is working 2 jobs and literally ran out of time and just did the bare minimum to get something turned in for a rough draft assignment.  Students do it all the time.  Sometimes you have to prioritize.
