Is ten courses at WGU in one term going to make me crazy? - udi - 05-20-2019
I'm thinking about doing the BS in software development at WGU, but I would only do it if I could finish in one term. My biggest concern is that the program has five certs.
I would transfer as many credits as possible. Maybe even the certs.
Who has done this? Is it worth the cheaper price point?

There are a ton of people who have completed their degrees in a single term from WGU. Many of them didn't transfer in the full amount of credits and end up taking more than 10 courses to complete their degree and still finish in a single term.
@quigongene completed his BSCIA from WGU in less than a single term (which also has a ton of certs) and I think he did like double that number of credits. I'm sure he'll respond here as well.
I'm currently in the MBA program and I am on track to finish it in a single term. It's 11 courses, but they're quite a bit harder than the undergrad work, plus the capstone requires 2 months (or at least you need to have at least 2 months left in the term to be allowed to register for it) so really you need to finish 10 courses in 4 months (or less) and then you have 2 months to complete the capstone course.
The BSCS program at WGU is very new so there aren't many who have completed it yet. I don't think anyone on this forum has done so, most seem focused on the IT or Cybersecurity degrees. I'd have gone with the BSCS though if it was available in 2017-2018.
Price wise, you can't beat the cost as long as you finish in a single term. It's on par with transferring in 114 credits to complete a degree with TESU if you finish in two terms.

I transferred in some of the certs and most of the gen eds for my degree. I ended up needing 15 classes (55 CUs), which I finished in 15 weeks (less than 4 months). If you already have a decent amount of experience in the subject matter and have the drive, finishing in one term shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I haven't done the CompTIA A+ cert, but I hear it takes a lot of study time

I burned through A+, Net+ and Sec+ in 8 days. Depends on your background, if you're good at taking tests, and your proximity to a testing center ;-).

I can't imagine the average person finishing the Sec+ in 8 days much less doing all 3 in 8 days

Don't forget that you can study for some of the certs ahead of time, so that it won't take up much of your time at WGU. For certain, I would say A+, but probably some additional ones if need be.

I am certain my husband could do Net+ and Sec+, but of course he has taken other higher level certs (CISSP is one I can think of off the top of my head). And he deals with this stuff on a daily basis.

and the ITIL cert seems to be a pain in the butt too (I'm not sure teh ITIL cert is included in the software dev degree, but the material is taught)
