Online Ph.D. Psychology or PsyD - romoh - 06-22-2019

Hey guys,

So I have 2 questions:

1. Do you know of any good online Ph.D. Psychology or PsyD?
2. Does the doctoral degree require that I have a masters degree?

Thanks.

Are you looking to become a licensed clinical, counseling, or school psychologist?

I second the question that sanantone asked.

CalSouthern (for-profit regionally accredited) has a PsyD that meets the educational requirements for licensure in CA (not sure about elsewhere).

$575 a credit, 66 credits, a relevant masters is expected.

Sorry I forgot to mention that. I am looking for either clinical or counseling.

Did you read your state's requirements? A handful of states require APA accreditation. There is only one APA-accredited hybrid program, and they were on probation the last time I checked. If you don't need APA accreditation, then you'll need a doctorate in psychology that is designed for licensure. This means that the program will include a clinical internship. You'll want to get the school's match rates. Non-APA-accredited programs tend to have very poor match rates.

If you complete an internship that is not APA-accredited, your employment options might be a little limited. If you complete a degree that is not APA-accredited, you will not be able to work for some federal agencies. The VA is the biggest one.

Ultimately, you will want to find a program that is APA-accredited in order to better your odds of gaining meaningful employment.

Thank you for the info. Where I live (Dubai), only a masters degree is required to start practicing. However, I want to become a doctor of Psychology so I guess ANY good online school will do.

Another question: Is there like any low-cost credit transfer in doctoral programs like there are in Bachelor? (testing out..etc)

Thanks

@romoh you wont find that at the masters level muchless the doctoral level. Some doctoral prograns allow like a low number (about 6) credits from a related masters program to be applied. Other than that you're out of luck.

OP - Here's the school my sister got her second masters from. She's going for this program, you may want to review the requirements as most schools will require something similar. This is just an FYI, the program may/may not be for you.
