Which is best to prepay for? - bethanyneedsajob - 08-24-2019
I am interested in prepaying for a couple of courses. I don’t want to take them for several months since I’m busy with traditional college. Does anyone know how long I can wait to before I take TEEX, Sophia etc?

Thanks. I wanted to take some of their courses. I also emailed CSMLearn to see how long they give. I just want to reinvest my pell refund before it gets used on unnecessary items.

The free TEEX courses are 6 months, I think.

I'm not sure on TEEX, but I think they close their courses twice a year at predetermined dates. So how long you have depends on when you start. The course end date would be obvious when you enroll.

I'd say find some other way to safeguard the cash. It would be a shame if life got in the way, or your school stopped accepting the course, or ??? and you had to forfeit the amount you prepaid.

I totally agree with this, plus who knows in a few months there may be even more options for credits, price drops, changes in your overall plan. It doesn't make sense to prepay these type of things especially with the time value of money such as it is.

Open a second bank account specifically for school-related funds. My credit unions both offer these for free, including Visa debit cards. Then you can't "accidentally" spend the money.

I have a HUGE stack of unused courses I bought for 1 son at Straighterline that he never used. I don't remember the cost, maybe that's a good thing.
His career took a change and the school he attended wouldn't accept them. As far as I know, they never expire, (well, maybe they do through ACE, so never say never) but they'll sit there forever unless or until I convince him to give them a go - but we are still years away from that even being an option.
I do know I had a coupon code that made them a great price, so that might be a factor for you - but I wouldn't pay FULL PRICE for anything I wasn't going to use immediately.
