Hello all,
I recently discovered this forum and it's sister forums last night while looking into the fastest and most economical way to get a degree.
A little back ground, I graduated high school but never pursued a degree. I have decided that a degree is something that I would like to have to open up my options, and am looking to get one relating to business, finance, or accounting.
It seems that the Big 3 have gone through quite a few changes since most of the information and how-to guides were published. I guess my question is, what is the fastest and most economical way to get a degree? Ideally I would like to transfer the maximum amount of credits possible through online courses - so would Excelsior, COSC, or TESU be my best option?
Additionally, I saw that Sophia is offering free courses from now through July 31st and would love to take maximum advantage of that. Would a finance / business degree allow me to take maximum advantage of Sophia's currently free courses? Or would I be able to take better advantage of those by pursuing a different degree?
Also, does anybody have any up-to-date templates for an applicable degree plan?
Sorry for all of the questions, this has been a lot of information to digest, and I am not at all familiar with how college courses / credits work. If anybody could help me out, or point me in the right direction, I would be extremely grateful.

The available plans aren't up-to-date w/ the current Sophia offer. In general it is recommended to start w/ the normal free credits https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Free_Sources_of_Credit . At this time I'd recommend starting w/ the GE part at Sophia, most will work for both TESU and COSC (and probably excelsior too). COSC is cheaper in general, so if you don't need a certain concentration that require certain courses that aren't offered by the providers, you are good. I'd say get started and get as much GE courses at Sophia done before July 31st. Next move to the normal free credits and finish up w/ Study.com / SL.

Sophia only has a handful of business courses. But you can use them for GE requirements. I would second the suggestion to use Sophia for as many GE's as you can through July. Also, take microeconomics and macroeconomics, most (if not all) business degrees require them, and Sophia offers both.

Looking at the courses that are transferable to TESU (https://tesu.sophia.org/#courses), would the majority of these count towards my GE courses? Or would I be better off contacting TESU to see what classes I could take that would be applicable to a business / finance degree? Is there a quick way to tell which courses Sofia offers that would be applicable? Or do you think I would be better off getting a degree in something else to take advantage of Sophia's free courses? I am open to anything as long as it can get my foot in the door of some financial / business career.
Also, do you think TESU or COSC would be the better choice for my goal? Thank you so much.

COSC will be less expensive.
Regarding your question on TESU. Just take a degree plan (http://degreeforum.net/mybb/showthread.php?tid=24842 post 28,31) and match the course codes. So ACC-101 listed on tesu.sophia.org would indeed match ACC-101 in the degree plan.

You really don't have to nail down a school or major yet. If you start with gen eds that will be required at schools then you will be covered no matter what option you choose. English comp I and I, public speaking, a science course, social science or history course, and a math course. These are good courses start with and will work for any major at TESU/COSC/EC/WGU.
Also WGU is a business option as well it might be cheaper and quicker than TESU or COSC for a business degree if you can work quickly. EC does offer a business degree as well but not many people on this forum go that route so I don't know much about them.
If you are looking for a place to start I say start with English Comp I and II. These two courses are required for literally any degree at school and any major. Then continue to look at majors and schools.

The Beginners Guide is still up to date, there aren't many changes to the TESU templates as the major changes are tuition fees and the Cornerstone requirement, all else remains the same. The others such as COSC and Excelsior hasn't changed either, again, those are the only two courses required, Cornerstone/Capstone. Now, if you look at my signature, do all the FREE credit courses first and work on the FREE courses from Sophia.org to get you to 100 credits absolutely FREE. I see you're on DegreeInfo as well, i'll just copy/paste there too...

If it were me, I'd start with Sophia and do everything possible, since they're free. No sense taking the other free stuff right now, since they are always free, and Sophia is not.
Take all of their 3-cr courses, starting with the most useful: English Comp I & II, Public Speaking, College Algebra, Stats, 2 science courses, both econs, both historys, Ethics, all of that. I'd probably skip College Readiness, and the "foundations" courses.

Everybody is recommending Sophia. If I were just starting out from zero, I'd second/third/fourth the suggestion. It's free right now, so just pound out as much as you can. Since you mentioned maybe doing accounting, definitely be sure to take their one Accounting class. This will be foundational to much more of what you do in a business degree, and will help you decide whether you really want to pursue the accounting path or not.

I thought I saw on TESU's website they are only accepting like 10 courses from sophia
I would check before investing much time.
