Affordable and Fast Masters wtih Teaching License - jthatcher50 - 04-28-2020

I will be finishing my BSBA with COSC this summer.  I am looking to become a teacher, it was too late for me to change my degree.  Any suggestions on an affordable and fast Masters degree program allowing me to get my teaching license?

I will also be wanting to get a Learning Behavior Specialist endorsement.

Thanks!

wgu is the online teaching program I know of. Does it have to be online?

Yes, I am currently a paraprofessional (teachers assistant) at a private learning behavior school.  With my 2 kids schedules on top of that, I wouldn't be able to commit to in person classes.

Since you're already going to have a Bachelor's degree, I'd probably look in-state to see if they have a teaching certification program that you can get instead. Many even have them for free, and will pay you a stipend while you student-teach.

I agree and also would recommend going for in-state college/universities in your area, if there aren't many options, check and see if WGU offers it within your state as they don't have the teaching option in all states. Just make sure you have completed all your prerequisites and find out what is required for your state regulations & rules.

Some states will let you substitute teach as long as you have any bachelor's degree. You may be able to roll that experience into an actual teaching license easily enough (depends on the state; some are more strict than others).

UoP has a M. Ed. program but they're nationally accredited and your district might not accept that. https://www.uopeople.edu/programs/ed/degrees/master-of-education-med/

I am in the UoPeople program now, and to be honest, I don't recommend it. If you wanted to teach at an IB school, then maybe that would make this a good option, but other than that.. Or if you want cheap professional development credits.

I went to American College of Education and they were great. I found them because my district has a partnership with them and my AP recommended them. They are set up for practicing educators, so you need to have access to a classroom and be working with students (so your position as a para would work) since a lot of the classes are "practical" - you are applying the learning to your situation.

Try to learn in advance, at the intricate-detail level, the requirements of the state and specific license you're targeting. e.g., permanent license, or temporary license with a work pathway to permanent? Subject, grade levels, special student populations?

I understand that in some contexts some states look at CAEP accreditation of teacher preparation programs. CAEP is the 2013 merger of NCATE and TEAC; some regulations or documents may still refer to these predecessors.
