Worth it to pay the $225 for my AS degree? - Clepking100 - 05-06-2020

Am enrolled in COSC, just finished my last non capstone/cornerstone class. I have a week left in the cornerstone and i'm sitting on an A -

My capstone doesnt start untill june, and has an end date of august 22nd. I am in the BSBA program (and will have 119 credits after getting my A from the cornerstone)

Is it worth it to chalk up $225 to have my associates degree for 4months? is there any instant gratification or immediate reason to take the associates degree in the mean time?

Save your money if you're already in a BSBA program. The only benefit to an associates is that some BS programs will give you a block transfer of all gen ed courses if you have an associates. In the job market, an associates is worthless, even moreso if you plan on getting a BSBA anyway.

I say its only worth if you have a lot of money and 225 is nothing to you.

I wouldn't pay it. There's really no reason to.

For me it’s a personal satisfaction thing. I would want it. Then again, an associates in the same field as the Bachelor’s doesn’t really highlight a differentiated skill. A BA in one topic and an associates in say math or accounting might serve some purpose in highlighting broad knowledge; again, but for what purpose?

Congrats on almost finishing!

If it was going to be more than 4 months, then maybe it would make sense, or give you the push you needed to get through.  But the OP is already signed up for the capstone, he'll be done and getting the BSBA.  So in that particular case, it doesn't make sense.

If you have $250 to burn, forget a piece of paper. Donate it to the local food bank. Buy gift certificates to small businesses in your area. Heck, put $10 bills in envelopes, and take it down to the local homeless shelter. Thorton Wilder said, “Money is like manure; it's not worth a thing unless it's spread around encouraging young things to grow.”

You'll feel a much better sense of accomplishment than getting an extra piece of paper.

I would not pay extra for an associate's unless it was absolutely needed for a specific job. I'm personally thinking about getting one or two to go along with my main degree, to show that I've accomplished different areas of study, but I'm not paying extra to the school for them.
