ACTFL - Spanish Major? - JWells247 - 05-16-2020

Hi all,
So I have a bit of a dilemma. I am currently almost done with the BALS at TESU  *woo hoo*. However, I have some UL courses in Spanish and wanted to double major in Spanish and BALS. And I tried to do the credit evaluation for Spanish and it says that I need the following 7 courses: I already took the Spanish OPIc exam (native speaker...I was so nervous I did not do well and need to retake to get High/Superior...only got mid...)
Intermediate Language Level I and II
1 - 200 Level Spanish Course

For the Adv Lang I and II section
2 courses (one must be 300 level)

Major Writers/ And or Masterpieces of Literature. Thank you all.
2 courses (200-400 level)

AOS Electives:
2 courses.

Can I just take ALL of the following ACTFL exams and cover those areas or no? Do the LL come in as 200 Level?

OPIc (speaking) $105, up to 6cr of UL and 6ct of LL
WPT (writing) $105, up to 6cr of UL and 6ct of LL
LPT (listening) $50, up to 6cr LL
RPT (reading) $50, up to 6cr LL

On the TESU blog it says:
The Advanced High/Superior exams are ACE-recommended for a total of 12 credits, which can satisfy a mix of lower-division and upper-division course requirements. For example, if you take the OPI exam in Spanish, you would fulfill your SPA-332 and SPA-333 Advanced Grammar and Composition I and II degree requirements as well as your SPA-335 and SPA-336 Advanced Composition and Style I and II degree requirements.

Thank you all.

That quote from the Blog is not right for just the OPI exam - because it's not 12cr UL like they list. That might be for OPI and WPT, though.

RPT and LPT are both LL only, and those may even duplicate the LL portions of the OPI and WPT, I haven't seen what those come in as yet.

As for Major Writers/Masterpieces of Lit, those are going to have to be courses you find elsewhere, they don't have them at TESU, nor can you test out of those.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you would double-major in the BALS & Spanish - you should just do one or the other. A general degree and a Spanish degree don't make much sense.

So if you really want the Spanish degree, then find the courses you need and be done with it. If you can't find those, then just get the BALS.

Thank you, for the response. I contacted them and they are really vague in regards to letting me know which test would transfer in as what. And whether they would overlap. As a heads up to everyone due to everything that is going on ACTFL is NOT issuing paper/mail in certificates at the moment. (TESU requires the ACE transcript with the ACTFL exam on it AND the certificate completion.) So you would have to request that your language testing account be registered under TESU if you did not originally do so. That way they can access your scores/certificate of completion.
