Capstone Required - natshar - 05-23-2020

Anyone know when TESU started requiring capstones? As in what year?

I know around 2017 is when they got rid of the Strategic Management TECEP and you couldn't transfer that course in. But what about the the other degrees like School of Liberal Arts or Applied Sciences? I don't know when they added the liberal arts capstone.

Also anyone know when EC and COSC required capstones? When was it no longer possible to transfer 120 credits?

I'm just kind of curious about this.

Found some answers:

Sometime early 2009 (I think?): COSC requires capstone in residence. The first school to end transferring 120 credits.
July 1, 2010: EC requires capstone in residence
2013 (I think?): TESU requires capstone for bachelors. However, for business degrees it can be tested out via TECEP or transferred.
Spring 2017: Business capstone can no longer be done via TECEP or transfer. In a few very specific cases people were able to transfer in capstone if taken an actual capstone course at RA school.
2019: TESU updates website clearly stating that all capstones must be taken at TESU no exceptions.

Cornerstone:

2009 (maybe??): COSC requires cornerstone in residence
May 2016: TESU 1 credit cornerstone in residence (waived with sdc or lots of credit transferred)
Jan 2019: TESU 3 credit cornerstone required for all new undergrad degree seekers. Replaces the 1 credit cornerstone. New cornerstone must be taken at TESU no wavier, transfer or exemptions. (except for those who already have a bachelors degree)
July 1 2019: Alt TESU all students enrolled under the old 1 credit cornerstone plan must complete it by this date or they will forced to do 3 credit cornerstone instead.
Jan 1 2020: EC requires 3 credit cornerstone for all degrees.
2020: At EC you can no longer transfer in 1 credit info lit. You now must take 3 courses totaling 7 total credits at EC.

Might not be 100% correct. Feel free to correct me if I got date wrong

As of 2020 for Bachelors credits in residence:
TESU: 6 credits required. (3 if 2nd Bachelors)
COSC: 6 credits required no matter what
EC: 7 credits required no matter what

EC has a required capstone for years. That's not new. As far as I know they never allowed 120 credits to be transferred in. You've always had to take some credits with them. They have to make money on you somehow! It's only 7 credits at EC that you're required to take though. If you take 12, then the $1095 fee is waived.

Yeah I found some info on my own.

According to this thread: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-EC-new-capstone-course-requirement-for-EC-Liberal-Arts-BA-s-starting-01st-July-2010?

EC did not have a capstone for Liberal Arts degrees prior to July 2010. They may have had some capstone for certain degrees, but according to this thread after July 2010, now all bachelors at Excelsior had capstones. So prior to 2010 people did do Liberal arts at EC by transferring in 120 credits and some old posts reflect that.

I remember reading the BA4weeks website way back when but capstone was not part of thier program at the time.

EC also started requiring capstones for their associates degrees as well. For a long time it was only for the AAS I think, then they switched to all AA's. So I think as long as I've been on here, EC was not a popular place to get an associates degree.
