TESU & Sophia - ss20ts - 07-04-2020

My hubby is now looking at completing his bachelor's degree in IT. He has 2 associates degrees and some credits from a 4 year school. All of this credits are 20+ years ago. Will TESU accept any gen eds from back then? Are they still accepting Sophia courses?

RE: TESU & Sophia - dfrecore - 07-05-2020

Yes, TESU will accept ALL GE's from 20+ years ago (mine were older than that). They won't take IT courses towards the major that are older than 5 years, but you can bring in GE from forever ago, no problem.

And yes, they still accept Sophia.

BTW - TESU's BSIT is hard to complete because of the science requirement - they need Chem I & II, or Physics I & II, which most people won't have taken. If this is the case for your husband, I might consider WGU instead.

If you post all of his credits, I can help with a degree plan.

Thank you for the offer! Last night he decided on WGU and their BS in Data Management and Data Analytics. He works in this field already. He's up for a promotion but not having a bachelor's degree is holding him back. I didn't expect his IT courses to transfer anywhere due to their age. I have the same problem with my business courses. They're also 20+ years old and very hard to transfer at this point. Thank goodness for Sophia and Study.com!

He has a lot of science in his associates degrees. He went to school for engineering back in the day. He has a ton of chem, physics, and math. We're hoping he doesn't have to repeat a bunch of the math, but he may have to at WGU. We will see. Thanks for your offer to help with a degree plan. That's very kind of you.

RE: TESU & Sophia - LevelUP - 07-05-2020

TESU will accept old credits in IT though they restrict the amount that can go into the AOS. TESU is very generous overall unlike WGU which is super restrictive on old credits. At any rate, nothing is stopping you from applying both schools and see what comes in.

TESU Computer Science is exactly the same course by course as IT if you set a degree program plan to mirror the IT degree. So if your goal is not really to write lines of code, but solely to manage hardware/software, a Computer Science degree would fit that as well.

WGU is heavily on certifications with Data Analytics you get these certifcations:
Udacity Nanodegree
CompTIA A+ (Parts 1 and 2)
CompTIA Network+
CompTIA Project+
CompTIA IT Operations Specialist
Oracle Database SQL
CIW Data Analyst

Nothing is stopping you from getting a TESU degree and going back and doing these certifications on your own. Or you could do a semester of WGU, then transfer those courses into TESU and probably be close to done with your degree by that point.

At any rate, factor in time, cost, and what courses are important for your individual situation.

The TESU degree may be very easy to complete if he has those science credits.  Again, post and I can help.

Also, your business credits will work at TESU - you may be limited on bringing some into the AOS, but they will take old stuff for the core, and of course GE, so it's really just 3 courses you'd have to worry about (they will take up to 9cr of things older than 7 years into the AOS, I had that myself).  That leaves only 9cr in the AOS that have to be new.
