Info on Biology BA from TESU - AppleStarr - 01-22-2021

I know a biology BA degree from TESU will not be fully testable but I'm just trying to get a grasp of what it would be like. How many classes I could do from SDC for example to sub any UL . I would already have 69 credits towards the degree so it would pretty much just leave everything that isn't a basic elective. Has anybody here did a biology degree from TESU and could enlighten me?

RE: Info on Biology BA from TESU - Flelm - 01-22-2021

I don't believe SDC has any upper level Biology credits for TESU. At least not according to https://study.com/college/school/thomas-edison-state-university.html

EDIT: Here's a (very old) degree plan from the wiki. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sanantone%27s_BA_in_Biology I have no idea how much of that is still true/relevant but it's a starting point.

What credits do you already have? Just your gen eds? You can probably get most of it, except the UL credits, relatively cheaply through CCs and the like.

It would not be a cheap degree m, but there are options available for at least some of the requirements.

A BA in biology isn't an option with their online degrees.

https://www.tesu.edu/academics/online-degrees

Excelsior has a BS in Natural Sciences with a bio concentration and a BS in Health Sciences.

Just because TESU thinks it's impossible doesn't necessarily mean that it is impossible. TESU counts the ASNSM Biology as being impossible to obtain online because they don't offer key courses, like Biology II, online. You can get Bio II elsewhere, though.

Again, it wouldn't be the cheapest degree to obtain at TESU, but it might be possible.

It's not that TESU thinks it's impossible - it's that it is not a degree that can be completed entirely through TESU courses.

They also only offer 1 UL course, and you need 15cr of UL.  You're going to have to find those credits somewhere other than TESU.

IMO, this is one of those degrees that someone might get where they were at a college, did a bunch of courses in the major including UL, and then weren't able to finish at that school and dropped out a semester or two short for one reason or another.  It's the perfect way to finally get your degree.

I copied and pasted what the degree would look like. I'm pretty much missing 3 courses General biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, pre-cal, 3 General chemistry classes, 3 organic chemistry classes, 3 physics classes, and out of the AOS electives groups I need 3 to complete it. So thats what I meant by I pretty much did all the general education classes. I'm aware I also need labs but realistically I can take outside lab classes if needed. Any input is welcome. I'm also an older TESU student and this would be my 2nd degree from TESU so I don't think the RA credit thing will be an issue.

It looks like you've pasted in things upside-down? It's a bit hard to read. Could you do screenshots instead? Just crop off the part with your name. Smile

RE: Info on Biology BA from TESU - dfrecore - 01-25-2021

If you have a bachelor's degree already (from TESU or anywhere else, doesn't matter), then you don't have to worry about the GE or Free Electives - you get a waiver for those.  You're ONLY going to need to do the AoS/Biology.

Within those 60cr, 15cr need to be UL.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It looks like you don't have ANY AoS/Major credits? If that's the case, this will be a VERY expensive option.  I would find a school that offers the courses you need elsewhere.  Just for the 60cr you need, you're probably looking at $15k just for the courses and labs, and then more for the capstone and residency waiver.  You can find a full second degree somewhere cheaper I think.
