Info on Biology BA from TESU - AppleStarr - 01-22-2021 I know a biology BA degree from TESU will not be fully testable but I'm just trying to get a grasp of what it would be like. How many classes I could do from SDC for example to sub any UL . I would already have 69 credits towards the degree so it would pretty much just leave everything that isn't a basic elective. Has anybody here did a biology degree from TESU and could enlighten me? RE: Info on Biology BA from TESU - Flelm - 01-22-2021 I don't believe SDC has any upper level Biology credits for TESU. At least not according to https://study.com/college/school/thomas-edison-state-university.html EDIT: Here's a (very old) degree plan from the wiki. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sanantone%27s_BA_in_Biology I have no idea how much of that is still true/relevant but it's a starting point. Info on Biology BA from TESU - rachel83az - 01-22-2021 What credits do you already have? Just your gen eds? You can probably get most of it, except the UL credits, relatively cheaply through CCs and the like. It would not be a cheap degree m, but there are options available for at least some of the requirements. RE: Info on Biology BA from TESU - ss20ts - 01-22-2021 A BA in biology isn't an option with their online degrees. https://www.tesu.edu/academics/online-degrees Excelsior has a BS in Natural Sciences with a bio concentration and a BS in Health Sciences. https://www.excelsior.edu/program/bachelor-of-science-in-natural-sciences/ https://www.excelsior.edu/program/online-bachelors-degree-health-sciences/ Info on Biology BA from TESU - rachel83az - 01-22-2021 Just because TESU thinks it's impossible doesn't necessarily mean that it is impossible. TESU counts the ASNSM Biology as being impossible to obtain online because they don't offer key courses, like Biology II, online. You can get Bio II elsewhere, though. Again, it wouldn't be the cheapest degree to obtain at TESU, but it might be possible. It's not that TESU thinks it's impossible - it's that it is not a degree that can be completed entirely through TESU courses. They also only offer 1 UL course, and you need 15cr of UL. You're going to have to find those credits somewhere other than TESU. IMO, this is one of those degrees that someone might get where they were at a college, did a bunch of courses in the major including UL, and then weren't able to finish at that school and dropped out a semester or two short for one reason or another. It's the perfect way to finally get your degree. RE: Info on Biology BA from TESU - AppleStarr - 01-24-2021 (01-22-2021, 05:19 PM)rachel83az Wrote: What credits do you already have? I'm pretty much missing 3 courses General biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, pre-cal, 3 General chemistry classes, 3 organic chemistry classes, 3 physics classes, and out of the AOS electives groups I need 3 to complete it. So thats what I meant by I pretty much did all the general education classes. I'm aware I also need labs but realistically I can take outside lab classes if needed. Any input is welcome. I'm also an older TESU student and this would be my 2nd degree from TESU so I don't think the RA credit thing will be an issue. 2: Biology (57SH: 15SH must be upper level) (In progress) SH Earned: 6 GPA Achieved/Needed: none / 2.000 Complete all 9 subrequirements: 1 credit needed 1 BIO-208 The Science of Nutrition 08/27/20 CR 3.00 BIO-208 *NE 1 BIO-101 Introductory Biology 06/05/20 CR 3.00 BIO-101 *NE 3 credits needed A: General Biology 8 SH (Not started) *must earn grades of C or better For course options, please contact an Advisor SH Earned: 0 Group 1 (Not started) Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # 3 credits __ __________ 3 credits 2 credits B: Cell Biology 3 SH (Not started) *must earn a grade of C or better For course options, please contact an Advisor Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # 3 credits needed C: Genetics 3 SH (Not started) *must earn a grade of C or better For course options, please contact an Advisor Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # 3 credits needed D: Microbiology 3 SH (Not started) *must earn a grade of C or better For course options, please contact an Advisor Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # __________ 3 credits needed E: Precalculus 3 SH (Not started) *must earn a grade of C or better For TESU course options, go to MAT-129 Precalculus Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # 3 credits needed F: General Chem 8 SH (Not started) *must earn grades of C or better For TESU course options, go to CHE-121 General Chemistry I with Labs and CHE-122 General Chemistry II with Labs SH Earned: 0 Group 1 (Not started) Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # 3 credits 3 credits 2 credits G: Organic Chem 8 SH (Not started) *must earn grades of C or better LAB REQUIRED For TESU course options, please contact an Advisor SH Earned: 0 Group 1 (Not started) Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # 3 credits 3 credits ___ _______ __________ 2 credits H: General Physics 8 SH (Not started) *must earn grades of C or better For TESU course options, go to PHY-115 Physics I with Lab and PHY-116 Physics II with Lab SH Earned: 0 Group 1 (Not started) Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # 3 credits 3 credits 2 credits I: AOS Electives 13 SH (In progress) *must earn grades of C or better For TESU and other course options, please contact an Advisor **At least 15 semester hours within the entire Biology Area of Study must be at the 300/400 level.** SH Earned: 6 Group 1 (Not started) Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # Notes______ _______________ _________________________ __________ _______ _______ __________ 3 credits needed Group 2 (In progress) SH Earned: 6 Required: 10 Remaining: 4 Written Communication 3SH (Complete) Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) option: ENC-101 English Composition I *must earn a grade of C/CR or better Source Course Title Term Grade SH TESU # Notes2 ENC-101 English Composition I 07/11/19 CR 3.00 ENC-101 *NE Written Communication 3SH (Complete) Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) option: ENC-102 English Composition II *must earn a grade of C/CR or better 2 ENC-102 English Composition II 07/11/19 CR 3.00 ENC-102 *NE Oral Communication 3SH (Complete) Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) option: COM-209 Public Speaking 1 COM-209 Public Speaking 07/13/20 CR 3.00 COM-209 *NE Quantitative Literacy 3SH (Complete) Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) option: MAT-121 College Algebra 1 MAT-121 College Algebra 07/11/20 CR 3.00 MAT-121 *NE Information Literacy 3SH (INSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENT) (Complete) To meet this requirement, students MUST take SOS-110 Critical Information Literacy at Thomas Edison State University. 3 SOS-110 Critical Information Literacy 2020JUN A- 3.00 B: CIV & GLOBAL LDRSHP (Complete) For all TESU course options that will satisfy this area of the degree, go to Civic and Global Leadership Courses SH Earned: 9 Diversity Intercultural Literacy 3SH (Complete) Zero Textbook option: SOC-101 Introduction to Sociology (Students pursuing a BA in Sociology should select a different course to satisfy the Diversity requirement.) RE: Info on Biology BA from TESU - dfrecore - 01-25-2021 If you have a bachelor's degree already (from TESU or anywhere else, doesn't matter), then you don't have to worry about the GE or Free Electives - you get a waiver for those. You're ONLY going to need to do the AoS/Biology. Within those 60cr, 15cr need to be UL. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It looks like you don't have ANY AoS/Major credits? If that's the case, this will be a VERY expensive option. I would find a school that offers the courses you need elsewhere. Just for the 60cr you need, you're probably looking at $15k just for the courses and labs, and then more for the capstone and residency waiver. You can find a full second degree somewhere cheaper I think.
