Mills College could combine with Boston-based Northeastern (mercurynews.com)

I don't get why alumni have so many demands. If the college cannot operate, it just can't. Honestly, why do they care so dang much? If the college was so great, they wouldn't be losing students and getting to the point of insolvency in the first place.

If they don't merge then they will just shut down. Yes merging means accepting boys into the school. It's 2021! It's not 1950. Welcome to the real world. The world is co-ed. It's rare that any non-co-ed school can survive today. Again it's not 1950. Seems like the school dug its own grave and their alumni and students are clueless about finances and the real world.

I have a friend who is an alumni, and her FB posts about this are ridiculous (she's not quite as ridiculous as her friends who are chiming in).  They are completely adamant that the college be transparent to them (like it has an obligation to them personally or something), as well as being 100% opposed to letting in men.  Ok, whatever.

That's just weird! How do alumni figure they're owed anything? College finances aren't typically too difficult to go find. Most small schools are struggling and have been. You'd have to be living under a rock to not know that especially when it comes to a school that's had financial problems for decades. It's amazing they've lasted this long. The college has been transparent for decades - they're in financial trouble. What part of this don't they understand? They're supposed to be college graduates.

Their ideology is blinding them to facts.

Lawsuit?  Why not?  It's the American way.
Mills College students sue school over Northeastern takeover (msn.com)

RE: Mills to merge with Northeastern? - ss20ts - 05-13-2022

Seems like there's no way to make the students there happy. If they close their doors permanently because of these lawsuits then the students will have even more problems. You can't get blood from a stone.

What on earth does the City of Oakland have to do with a private college? I still want to know how the college hasn't been transparent in its financial crisis? They've been in trouble for many years and been public about it.
