What degree/college would be best if I have 98 credits & don't care about the major? - mansion7 - 07-05-2021

I have been studying, off and on (mostly off) for the past few years, towards a business degree, because that's what my work would pay for.

But now I have some more money so I'm able to pay for myself, and I just want this done.  I still don't want to break the bank, but I'm much more flexible on cost than I used to be.  Any suggestions of what college/degree would be the most expedient and/or would accept the most credits?

Here's my credits.   I believe this is 79 lower level credits and 19 upper level for a total of 98.    I would be most grateful for any suggestions!  Thank you very much!

Hey, do you have an Associates degree already? Where are these credits from, a community college?
Some options in order of recommendation: For the Cost, Ease, Speed to finish I would chose these.

1) UMPI BLS Minor in Management, they will take up to 90 credits.
2) Excelsior BSLA, take up to 113 credits, with 7 taken through them.
3) TESU BALS, take up to 114 credits, with 6 taken through them.
4) Walden or WGU, up to 90 credits for their Business Degree.

I don't have an associates degree; most of these are from a community college, but I did some Study.com courses, and some Aleks courses, and some from AICPCU which are insurance courses; it's my understanding that they're all accredited by ACE.
Thank you for your recommendations!  I wasn't familiar with UMPI!   Last time I visited here people talked about the "big three" and I'm glad to see another option has come up!

It's best to get some more details on your current situation, are you part of a union? Do you have tuition assistance/reimbursement from work? Married? Have kids? I think the best thing to do right now is to decide on the degree/school. In regards to the Big 3, I forgot to add COSC alongside UMPI, they may be your best bet if you have 24 RA credits already, you can finish everything with Sophia.org/Study.com and their cornerstone/capstone. UMPI would be a better option if you can finish faster, but you will pay by term, if you finish in two terms, COSC would be the same cost.

ALEKS is all LL credit. Business Statistics would not be UL anywhere that I am aware of.

Are the AICPCU credits on a Credly transcript? If they're not on a Credly transcript then they are probably gone.

Industrial/Organizational Psych from SDC is considered LL at TESU but should be UL elsewhere.

If you went with COSC, you could NOT bring in your ALEKS or AICPCU credits. Your best options are UMPI, TESU, or Excelsior. But it depends on what degree you actually want. A BALS degree is always "the fastest" but it's not necessarily the best option. Would a generic degree actually be good for your career or would a more specific degree work better? Because you don't actually have that many UL credits, your options are pretty open.

COSC: Requires 30 UL credits. Does NOT accept ACE credits from anyone outside of a very small list of providers. SDC is on the list but several other popular options are not. Must take 6 credits (capstone/cornerstone) with them.

TESU: 15-18 UL credits. Recent catalog update makes it easier for most people to get a degree due to a reorganization of how credits work. Must take 6 credits (capstone/cornerstone) with them.

EC: Requires 30 UL credits. Only a couple of their degrees can be fully obtained with alternate credits, but if you're willing to pay for and take a couple extra classes with them then that could open up possibilities for you. Must take at least 7 credits with them (capstone, cornerstone, information literacy). Taking 13 credits is only a couple hundred dollars more than 7 due to partnership agreements.

WGU: You may transfer in up to 90 credits in theory but, in practice, they have few gen eds and there aren't easy equivalents for many classes. 60-80 credits seems to be the maximum that the average person could reasonably transfer to WGU. Competency-based so the degree costs less if you can finish more quickly.

UMPI: May transfer in "unlimited" credits but you MUST take 30 credits with them. Must take the majority of UL credits from UMPI. Competency-based so the degree costs less if you can finish more quickly.

Thank you!  I think I got that upper level thing from Acenet or something back when it existed, but I might be wrong;  It's been a while since I checked into it.

I did indeed transfer all my credits from Acenet over to Credly!   I also have most of them stored in the Excelsior Credit Bank, for what it is worth.  But I read something years ago about Excelsior that turned me off of them. I can't remember what it was, so maybe I ought to also give them another look.

Yeah, my work doesn't care what the degree is in, just as long as you have one; but I don't care about advancing at work anymore, since I've also started my own business.   I just don't want to die without completing this darn thing.   Thank you for the advice and suggestions!

If you've started your own business, what about a BSBA Marketing? I know you're not looking forward to business classes, but this is something that could be useful to you.

Another one to look into for competency based is Northern Arizona University (NAU). Their competency based program terms are longer, but if you can finish in 6 months, it’s just a tad cheaper than some other options at $3,000. Unlike other schools, they were willing to review my unofficial transcripts to give me an idea of what would transfer and no application fee. Since I have my own copy of all of my transcripts, I liked not having to pay to send transcripts just to figure out if it was a good fit. Your credits might fit into the BS in Management.

UMPI is starting a BA in Marketing this August. One in Supply Chain Management as well.

I'm going to guess that with the courses you already have, a BLS at UMPI will be the fastest option. It's like the BALS at TESU except that you are allowed a LOT more Free Electives at UMPI.

There are a bunch of threads on here about the best way to get credits and transfer into UMPI - you'll want Bio w/Lab and maybe American Govt at Study.com, and a few additional courses at Sophia including Ethics. But get a degree plan and figure it out before spending any more money. Possibly even apply to UMPI, get an eval of all of your credits, then defer your enrollment and come back here with the info and we'll tell you what to finish up before starting at UMPI.
