I doubt they're in trouble. Journalist David Halperin is just writing a letter requesting the government to look into how SACS has allowed for-profit company Keiser to intervene in the affairs of supposedly nonprofit colleges. Keiser University used to be for-profit.

After reading the other article Halperin wrote and linked to in this one, it appears that ACCSC is in more trouble than anyone else. Their issues aren't limited to Keiser's schools; 40% of their schools have no value to students. Their graduates make as much as high school graduates.

This guy has complaints about every accreditor that's up for review this year: COE, SACS, ACCSC, ABHES, and AAOM. He wants greater scrutiny of DEAC when they're up for review next year.

Here is another article regarding accreditation.  It illustrates one potential reason why any of the Regional Accreditors, now known as "Institutional Accreditors." might not want to fall into disfavor or develop a bad reputation of some sort.
