Transfer Master Credits to TESU Bachelor while pursuing the Master? - FrHaseKopf - 11-30-2021

Hi All!

First of all, does anyone have experience transferring master credits towards a bachelor degree (or as waiver for bachelor courses)?

So here is my background, I had a Bachelor in other subject, then decided to change career to pursue computer science, so I'm currently doing a CS online conversion master program. I have one semester left and found this forum and TESU BACS degree. If it won't take too much effort, I'm very interested in getting a BACS to complete my education background!

If I understand correctly, with the TESU policy, I can waive the GenEd and electives with my first Bachelor. Then for the min. 24 AOS credits, if they accept my Master level CS course credits, then I only need to do the Capstone and Information Literacy?? Is this too easy to be true?

Let's assume that TESU does accept master credits for bachelor AOS, regarding the min. 24 credits, I have seen contradictory information though:
on the TESU blog, it says the 24 credits must be after the date of your most recent UNDERGRAD study.
https://blog.tesu.edu/the-secret-to-earning-a-second-degree

But, on the TESU degree policy site, it says after the most recent degree, regardless of academic level.
https://tesu.smartcatalogiq.com/current/Undergraduate-Catalog/University-Policies-and-Procedures/Undergraduate-Academic-Policies/Degree-Policies/Award-of-Degrees

In the latter case, since my current Master degree is not yet conferred, I can still use the Master credits for transfer, right?? I just need to get them transferred before I finish the master?

Appreciate your thoughts and advice, thank you!!

If the credits transfer and fulfill all the CS area of study requirements, you'll only need the capstone.

If you're still planning to complete the master's degree, make sure that your school will allow you to use the credits for both an undergraduate and graduate degree!

[Yes, I helped a few people with getting graduate credits for the price of undergrad courses.]

So here is my background, I had a Bachelor in other subject, then decided to change career to pursue computer science, so I'm currently doing a CS online conversion master program. [NO, there are more credits than the 24 you're referring to, there is a minimum of 24 credits, the BACS AOS is more than that and YES]

[YES and NO] The two sentences mean the same thing.  You just need to get these credits after your first degree, it doesn't matter if you are done with your graduate degree or not.  They just need these courses evaluated for equivalency credit.

Appreciate your thoughts and advice, thank you!!

If the credits transfer and fulfill all the CS area of study requirements, you'll only need the capstone.

[True, to a certain point, the OP needs a minimum of 24, the AOS is much more than that though]

If you're still planning to complete the master's degree, make sure that your school will allow you to use the credits for both an undergraduate and graduate degree!

[In this case, it won't matter, the OP is going for a Masters and transferring those courses into the Bachelors, the results will be the same pre/post conferral of the Masters]  This will only be an issue if OP is taking grad courses at TESU towards the Bachelors and re-using them for the current Masters degree elsewhere.

Oringal Poster, you should provide us more details.  What was the previous degree in?  Which country/state are you in, are these international or RA credits?  The more info we have, the better, you may want to copy/paste your transcript without your personal details of the previous degree and the current degree.  Which masters are you taking, got a link?

Final note, my answers are in bold red above: OP, the AOS is 39 credits, your Master degree most likely is 30-36 credits.  Unless all the courses content are exactly identical, you'll have to take courses at Study.com to fulfill the requirements.

Hi ! Thanks for your replies!
Now it's more clear about the min. 24 credits, so I still need to fulfil the 39 AOS. But my master courses seem to cover most of them, so I might just need to take 4-5 alternative classes plus Capstone, if the transferring works.
And yes, I do plan to finish my master degree, but the university is in UK, I guess they wouldn't know or care if I use the credits for another degree in US, since I only need the transcript for WES evaluation, not actually requesting to 'transfer to another school'. (Do I understand this correctly?)

So here are more details:
-First Bachelor in Business and English, 4 yrs Brick & Mortar Uni, In Asia. (Incl. some Calculus and Statistics courses)
-First Master (MBA), 2 yrs Brick & Mortar, in Europe. (120 ECTS) (probably use some credits for electives if allowed)
-Second Master in progress (UK conversion CS online Master), 180 UK credits, completed 120 credits.

The conversion course is from University of York, link below:
https://online.york.ac.uk/study-online/msc-computer-science-online/

I have seen that International degrees are evaluated as RA credits by WES, so the credits shouldn't be a problem. Only I don't know yet how many of them will be evaluated as US credits.

I'm now waiting for the grading of my last module from U of York before thesis, then I will do WES for all credits I have, and see how it will look like!

Will update and post transcripts once I get my WES result, thank you all for your valuable information and advice!

Hahaha, so which university/country are you from? I originally thought you were from Russia, but now I am second guessing this as you mentioned the UK! You have to do an evaluation for your First Bachelors and your current Masters to see what credits can be reused for your BACS. From my initial quick look, you may have to take just a few more courses through Study.com to get the AOS completed as it has 39 credits. Patience my friend, you'll finish which last courses you want and just see how they transfer after the evaluation...

It's going to be 45 credits (not 39) between the required courses (18), computer science electives (18), additional area of study electives (6), and capstone (3). The six additional AOS credits can come from other computer science electives, math, or natural science.

You're correct, I was looking at this page which references AOS as 39: https://www.tesu.edu/heavin/ba/computer-science

One additional note from the catalog on transferring graduate-level credit: https://tesu.smartcatalogiq.com/en/Current/Undergraduate-Catalog/Methods-of-Learning-and-Earning-Credit/Transfer-Credit/Non-Collegiate-Providers

There is a "maximum of 30 semester hours for a baccalaureate degree and 15 semester hours for an associate degree of graduate credit".

wow, thank you! That was exactly what I was looking for, policy regarding transferring graduate credits towards bachelor.

btw a bit update, U of York (where I currently pursue my Master) just said it will take several months until I get my grades on official transcript, due to the bureaucracy of 'confirmation from Board of Examiners', which happens only at least ? once a year...  I guess I need to either wait or just finish the evaluation without the Master transcript, if that's not gonna happen soon..

RE: Transfer Master Credits to TESU Bachelor while pursuing the Master? - bjcheung77 - 12-08-2021

Ouch, once a year eh? Hmm, do they even have an option to just send out what has been completed, you don't need the full parchment, I think that should be faster. I would just send in the evaluation of what you can now, and transfer in the rest later, you still need to "make up" whatever else is missing in the Area of Study.
