AA transfer to TESU - uncoolbilly - 12-09-2021
I enrolled at TESU in 2014 when I planned to attend to finish my AA and start my BA?? (not sure what degree, you would think at 50 yo I would have a clue by now).
My unofficial transcript from South Suburban College 2014, an RA community college (I have added a few class to complete my AA, TESU just hasn't received the updated version yet).

The question is, if I do Straighterline, Sophia, onlinedegree, etc. will the 64 credits from South Sub count towards a "90 cr total" or is it a 90 cr limit per category?
Like everyone else, the goal is Speed and reduced cost - next would be limiting test stress...

It'll be a maximum of 90 semester credit hours from the community college and a maximum of 90 semester credit hours from ACE/NCCRS recommendations (OnlineDegree.com, Sophia, StraighterLine, etc.).

Now we know what you're trying to do, you want to take the 16 credits for residency purposes and the remainder ACE/NCCRS credits. Your calculation would look like this for the 120 credits.
- 64 community college (everything you have already transferred in)
- 16 TESU (SOS-110, Capstone, PLA100, 3 E-Packs or 3 easy courses)
- 40+ ACE/NCCRS (remaining requirements missing from your degree)

- 64 credits from community college (assuming that all of your credits were to fit into the bachelor's degree)
- 50 credits from ACE/NCCRS
- 6 credits from TESU (SOS-110 and capstone)
- 64 credits from community college (assuming that all of your credits were to fit into the bachelor's degree)
- 40 credits from ACE/NCCRS
- 16 credits from TESU (SOS-110, capstone, and 10 credits of Online, Guided Study, or e-Pack courses)

I would not take any more credits at your local CC unless these are courses that you literally cannot find anywhere else (which happens, but is uncommon). Both Sophia and Study.com are way cheaper. If you take 16 credits in a single term at TESU, you'll save thousands on your degree. So, I'd say do the following:
60 - CC
16 - TESU, single term (includes capstone & cornerstone)
44 or 45 from Sophia, Study.com, Davar, Coopersmith, and/or maybe Olivet Nazarine University (depending on degree)

Rather than completing 90 credits at the community college, you might also want to consider taking 16 credits at TESU to avoid the residency waiver:
- 64 credits from community college (assuming that all of your credits were to fit into the bachelor's degree)
- 50 credits from ACE/NCCRS
- 6 credits from TESU (SOS-110 and capstone)
- 64 credits from community college (assuming that all of your credits were to fit into the bachelor's degree)
- 40 credits from ACE/NCCRS
- 16 credits from TESU (SOS-110, capstone, and 10 credits of Online, Guided Study, or e-Pack courses)
Would PLA or TECEP count towards the 16 credits from TESU and still avoid the residency waver? those seem less expensive...

TECEPs do not count. Nor do PLAs, IIRC. But, if you do 16 credits in one term, that's much cheaper than taking the courses individually.

Essentially, PLA and TECEPS only count towards the 30 RA credit requirement, you've got the credits from community college to cover those. If you're not active service person, TECEPS will NOT cover the residency requirements, that went away in 2016. So, if you're sticking it out with TESU, it's essentially pay the residency waiver or take the 16 credits in 1 term... You need to decide on a few things... cost, ease, speed.
You may want to decide on the degree/school of choice, if you do not have any tuition assistance/reimbursement, you may want to see if you have any Financial Aid and use that towards a degree at TESU, Excelsior, UMPI/WGU or COSC. With your current credits, it'll swing either to a Business OR a Liberal Arts to get the credits fastest... TESU/Excelsior takes cheap/easy/fast NCCRS credits too, UMPI/WGU/COSC does not.
AA transfer to TESU - jch - 12-09-2021
Although TECEPs do not count toward credit residency, the highly similar ePack exams do count. If you're already taking 9+ credits of courses in a term, any ePacks are free, minus optional study materials.
