UMPI Multiple Minor - Inquiry - bjcheung77 - 01-24-2022 Several people asked me about minors currently not available on YourPace and if there is an option to get them... There was a member who was able to get the International Studies minor added to their BLS as a third minor! And so, that got me thinking... UMPI requires the bulk of the AOS and 30 credits from them for residency. As long as you're using up those courses offered by YourPace into the minors to successfully complete them, it should work. If you have multiple minors using YourPace, you can technically transfer in the remaining requirements for the subsequent minor! This should work for any minor that has courses for the YourPace program, such as CJ, English, History, and more. Please Note: I would not purposely ask for a minor not offered by YourPace, unless you are just 1 or 2 courses away from completion and those courses are offered by the YourPace platform. These minors are again for the regular on campus programs. Always ask for permission to add a subsequent minor before treading this path. Will it work? Your advisor will inform you if those final courses are offered on YourPace or not. Snippet of post 16: "I enrolled and noted that I needed 1 more class for the Business Administration minor and 2 more for the International Studies. All the classes I needed were available to YourPace students" For reference post #14, 15, 16: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-UMPI-BLS-Management-Minor-and-History-Minor-My-Path?pid=352372#pid352372 UMPI Catalog Site: http://catalog.umpi.edu/ Applied Science, B.A.S. or Liberal Studies, B.L.S (List of Minors offered to on-campus students) Accounting Minor Art Minor Athletics Coaching Minor Biology Minor Business Administration Minor Chemistry Minor Community Health Administration Minor Criminal Justice Minor Cybersecurity Minor Early Childhood Education Minor Educational Studies Minor Energy Development & Policy Minor English Minor Environmental Studies Minor Film Studies Minor French Minor Geology Minor Graphic Design Minor Health & Wellness Minor History Minor Human Services Minor Humanities Minor International Studies Minor Management Information Systems Minor Management Minor Mathematics Minor Philosophy Minor Physical Education Minor Physical Science Minor Political Science Minor Pre-Law Studies Minor Professional Communication Minor Project Management Minor Psychology Minor Recreation/Leisure Minor Social Studies Minor Sociology Minor Sustainable Agriculture Minor Wabanaki Studies Minor Women’s Studies Minor Writing Minor RE: UMPI Multiple Minor - Inquiry - Miyabi - 01-26-2022 Do you know how multiple minors work when there is some overlap with the first minor? Do you only need to take the additional classes that complete the second minor? Yes there can be some overlap between minors. I graduated with 3 minors. The advisors told me that each minor requires 9 unique credits of the required credits, different from both each other and the major. Everything else can overlap. Although, I don't know if they would count a course towards just one minor if it could count towards another, in the case that the course is an extra above the required number of credits for the second. I didn't ask because it would potentially mean only taking one more course, and I'm set on getting both the Project Management and Management of Information Systems minors with the BABA. RE: UMPI Multiple Minor - Inquiry - evanmonast - 05-19-2022 They actually allowed me to pursue a minor not offered on YourPace as my only minor. I originally applied for the BLS Management minor but then asked if I could make that a BAS and they agreed. I later decided I didn't want a management minor and asked if I could go after the Pre-Law minor and was granted permission. Neither my major or minor are advertised on YourPace.. I love this school. RE: UMPI Multiple Minor - Inquiry - Jennr2z - 05-19-2022 What is the difference between an AS and an AAS degree? Apparently I could qualify for the BAS if I had an AAS but I have an AS ![]() RE: UMPI Multiple Minor - Inquiry - Jennr2z - 05-19-2022 (05-19-2022, 08:26 AM)evanmonast Wrote: They actually allowed me to pursue a minor not offered on YourPace as my only minor. Apparently I could qualify for the BAS if I had an AAS but I have an AS You must have an AAS to be eligible for the BAS. Any other associate degree is not eligible. You can earn any other degree at UMPI though. You're eligible for the BLS which is what the BAS is modeled after. Your coursework won't be any different. I have an AAS and did the BLS. The BAS wasn't presented to me as an option. Technically it's not an option in YourPace. The BAS is the Bachelor's Applied Science. An AAS is an Associate of Applied Science. The AS is Associate of Science. Two totally different things. Applied Sciences are programs like business, human services, culinary arts, etc. RE: UMPI Multiple Minor - Inquiry - Jennr2z - 05-19-2022 (05-19-2022, 08:46 PM)ss20ts Wrote:I just like the sound of Bachelor Applied Science better than Bachelor of Liberal Studies!(05-19-2022, 02:40 PM)Jennr2z Wrote: What is the difference between an AS and an AAS degree?
