UMPI vs Excelsior - debrag - 05-10-2022

I'm trying to pick the right place for me to apply to next year. I am currently at University of the People paying very little for their BS Health Science degree. I wanted to transfer out for multiple reasons and I have discovered Excelsior & UMPI are the main places that will take my credits.

I wanted to do health science or natural science but it's looking expensive so I thought about either BALS or BSLS or history (UMPI). UMPI take UoPeople credits but only for GenEd it looks like, whereas Excelsior look like that may take most of them.

Excelsior I can transfer in 113 credits - ACE + UoPeople
UMPI I cam transfer in 90 credits - ACE + UoPeople

For UMPI I'm looking at the History degree and doing the 30 credits with them could be cheaper than Excelsior. But they have a language requirement.

Is it worth me claiming the AS from UoPeople?

CURRENT CREDITS

Sophia

Art History I
Introduction to Psychology
Introduction to Sociology
US History l
College Algebra

UoPeople

Programming 1

Intro to Environmental Science
Biology II  (4 credits) LL
Biology 1 LL

Any other options where I can transfer in AEC credits, I don't mind not using UoPeople credits or going somewhere that isn't one of the big 3 as long as I can pay in installments not in one go, if more expensive.

I'm from the UK

How do you feel about papers? If you hate papers and prefer exams, Excelsior would be the way to go. If you can write papers quickly, UMPI could be faster and cheaper even if they don't take most of your UoPeople credits.

As for the language requirement at UMPI, Spanish through InstantCert is supposed to be pretty easy. If you took German or French in school, however, taking a CLEP exam might be easier for you. There are three CLEP exam locations in the UK, two of which are public. One is in London (N32BS) and the other is in Salford - near Manchester (M74NU). https://clep.collegeboard.org/clep-test-center-search You might even be able to take the exam for free (not counting travel expenses) via ModernStates.org.

Another option for Spanish, if you still have an active account, is with Sophia. They are expected to roll out a Spanish class soon. It might not be the easiest/cheapest, but could be the most convenient, if you still have an active Sophia account. But I wouldn’t sign up with Sophia *just* for Spanish.

How many degree evaluations can I get with Excelsior? Thinking of seeing how my credits align with BALS, BSLS, and Natural Science even if I do need to do an UL lab.

Cost of traveling to London for each exam makes CLEP a no go, (expecially if I don't get them free too), unless I schedule them all for the same day and pass them all (looking as multiple subjects). Can't believe only those in the US can take them online.

How many UL courses are required for the BSLA & BALA from Excelsior?

I actually thinking of going the SDC route and doing the history course

They only recently became available online in the US. And the proctoring for them sucks.

I know it's just strange something online can't be international, hopefully eventually.

Annoyingly the SDC history courses all come in as LL at Excelsior.

You need 30 credits (usually 10 courses) of UL credits.

Anyone know where I can get UL history courses? Other than CS that is. Do electives need to be none history?

RE: UMPI vs Excelsior - rachel83az - 05-10-2022

Olivet Nazarene has one UL history course. There is one UL History UExcel exam.
