UMPI which degree would make sense based on what I have? - WrapitRalph - 05-26-2022 Hello! I have looked around the forum and some degree plans for UMPI and I am still a little unsure around what would translate and what I should plan to do. I am looking at UMPI for their Yourpace program and ideally would like to transfer in 90 credits and spend two terms to finish remaining 10 classes. Little confused still on the BLS requirements vs BA vs the Your Location: Massachusetts, USA Your Age: 31 What kind of degree do you want?: Any bachelors really, Business focused would be good. I am also considering the Project Management concentration at UMPI as I have been a PM for 10 years, but really I would prefer whatever would be the fastest completion with what credits I do have. Not sure which degree and program I should go after the BLS or BA with what I currently have and if there are courses I still should take prior to applying to get me to within the 10 classes required at UMPI. RE: UMPI which degree would make sense based on what I have? - rachel83az - 05-26-2022 I haven't done a full breakdown, but it looks like you're pretty well set for any degree you want. If you prefer business, I would do business. If you still have an active Sophia account, you might want to get Business Law and possibly Communication at Work. RE: UMPI which degree would make sense based on what I have? - bjcheung77 - 05-26-2022 @OP, Welcome to the board WrapitRalph! You really want to "finish" the template as the bottom of the thread I made an updated post. With more details, we can help decipher which program is better for you. UMPI may or may not be the option you decide on because of other factors and variables, by knowing more details, we can give more adequate advice. RE: UMPI which degree would make sense based on what I have? - bjcheung77 - 05-26-2022 Ouch! That time limit and those commitments really hurts... My suggestion is a 50/50 at this time because you haven't hit the "time threshold" I usually recommend and that's above 28 hours/week for studies, I usually recommend more than that. I would add Excelsior, TESU to that list as your budget makes up for the cost, it may be easier, faster to finish but cost more. A general college course runs between 100-130 hours, easiest intro courses can come in at 80 or less hours, alternative credit should not be any less than half that. For example, we'll use two points - 20 hours/course for those who are amazingly fast and have great knowledge in the subject, at the opposite end 50 hours for those who are less inclined with the subject matter. Let's randomly say you can finish or manage a course per week, that'll take you two terms to finish for an astonishing price of $2800. But I wouldn't try to rush things as UMPI provides "graded" credits that you may want to use for grad school entry. With your restrictive time allowance, you should shoot for 2 terms to finish, but be happy even if it takes you 3 terms at $4200. The time limit is a little made up, more about preference than anything. Yeah, if I can get to where I only need 10 courses then if I do one every two weeks that will be 3 terms which would be fine. I plan on aiming for two if I got UMPI, but am anticipating a spill into three. RE: UMPI which degree would make sense based on what I have? - dfrecore - 05-26-2022 The question is, do you want a true business degree or not? If so, then you could do the BABA w/Marketing concentration if you want, since you have an UL marketing comms course done already. But since you have a lot of credit already, and you've taken a bunch you don't really need, you will lose about 21 credits doing the BABA. If you take the BLS degree, then you'll get almost everything. One thing to keep in mind, if you want to finish as quickly as possible: don't repeat courses. So, don't take Macroecon through Sophia when you've already taken it at a college. Same with Intro to Business. Next, don't take any more courses that you don't need (Visual Comm, Intro to IT, etc.). When you have limited time, taking things you don't need really slows things down. ------------------------------------------------------------ I would take 1C, 5A and 5E for the GEC before doing anything else; and then PJC215 (Workplace COmm) if you have time left on Sophia. Then make the switch to Study.com for any other courses you can take (ACC 301: Applied Managerial Accounting, BUS 303: Management Information Systems, BUS 309: Digital Marketing & Advertising) so that you only have 2 GEC's and the major courses to take at UMPI. If you do Marketing, you'll have 11 major courses Management has more you can take at SDC so you can capitalize on that. RE: UMPI which degree would make sense based on what I have? - ss20ts - 05-26-2022 4A must be completed at UMPI. All YourPace students take the YourPace Orientation. It's about an hour long and 0 credits. You'll learn how the learning platform and courses work in the orientation. You said you tested out of English. Where? AP? If you took a test at a previous college then that won't apply to UMPI. Everyone has to meet all of the English Comp requirements. If they accept the College Writing II course for ENG121 you'll still need ENG100 or ENG101. You can get this done on Sophia. You need to figure out if you want the BLS or which BA you want. Aside from the GEC the degrees have quite different programs. |
