Transfer scenario/question - Jennr2z - 06-05-2022 Hello- I am starting with UMPI on 8/29 with 10 courses to complete for BLS minor management minor political science. My question is how an overage of transferred credits are handled beyond the 90 allowed? I have already had ancient transcripts sent over from an AS degree and have 55.5 credits that transferred. Sophia will be 30 credits. Olivet 6 credits, and Study.com 3 credits. Total of 94.5 credits transferred. How are the overage of 4.5 handled? Many of the 55.5 are irrelevant Animal Science elective classes, so can they be just overage? I just want to make sure that all of my necessary courses count from Sophia, Olivet, Study are going to count. Thank you! RE: Transfer scenario/question - rachel83az - 06-05-2022 As far as I'm aware, UMPI will fill degree & GEC requirements first, then electives (if any). Leftover credits will be listed on the transcript but will not interfere with your ability to transfer in "useful" credits. Example You transfer in 30 credits of dance, 30 credits of pottery, 40 of animal science, and 6 relevant credits of English Comp. Although you'll have sent 106 credits, under this fictional scenario, you'll probably get no more than 15 or 21 credits on your degree audit (depending on which degree you're going for). The rest will be on your transcripts but not count toward degree progress. This is the scenario I was assuming but was having a worry moment ![]() RE: Transfer scenario/question - bjcheung77 - 06-05-2022 Most schools won't allow more than X courses as they will have residency requirements, depending on what they are, you're only allowed X credits for transfer max. In your particular case, or anyone who transfers over 90 credits into UMPI, those extra credits will go into the "other or overflow" "underneath the line" on your transcript. It won't be part of your degree, but should show up as transferred credits. All transferred credits will not affect your internal GPA either... RE: Transfer scenario/question - dfrecore - 06-06-2022 When I do transcript evals, I just work my way through: I do the requirements first (English Comp I & II, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, etc.), as well as the major. After that, I fill in any other general ed electives. Then Free electives. So for UMPI, I'm guessing that's what they do - and then what's left is what you need to take there, or need to still bring in (because you could conceivably bring in a lot more than 90cr, but many will just be free electives, which you may max out on). What normally happens is that people end up with more than 120cr when all is said and done. They only accept 90 credits towards the 120 no matter how many credits you have. You'll get a degree evaluation form from your advisor once you're accepted and the transcripts have been processed. They go through the GEC first then your major/minor/concentration. Whatever is left applies to the general electives. There are a limited number of gen elects. |
