SDC computer courses UL requirement? - homeschoolmom1 - 06-08-2022

If someone takes a whole bunch of SDC upper level computer courses, would they fulfill the requirement for upper level courses for the Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies at Excelsior? On the transcript, will the names of the courses be listed (i.e. Software Engineering, AI), or will it just say "Elective"?

Thank you.

Have you checked Study's website? Every course 300 & 400 on Study doesn't transfer as a UL to Excelsior.

Are you saying that none of the 300/400 level courses transfer as UL, or only some of them transfer as UL?

There are 7 SDC Comp Sci courses that EC accepts as UL. They're Applied Professional credits, so you'd need to have enough room for them.

On page 103 of the catalog, it says that 30 of the total credits in the degree have to be UL, 21 of which in the arts and sciences.

Are SDC computer courses defined as "arts and sciences" at Excelsior? How about business courses? If neither are "arts and sciences", there are not that many UL options for this degree, other than psychology, right? Is there a list of UL courses from all providers that people have transferred in to fulfill the UL requirement for the BSLA degree?

No, computer science is "Applied Professional" which is not arts & sciences. Arts & sciences would be: humanities, social science, history, natural sciences, mathematics.

Olivet Nazarine has up to 12 UL credits that would apply, depending on whether you want to take Christian theology courses or not: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Olivet_Nazarene_University
CIS Testing has 2 UL History courses (confirm with advisor before taking): https://cistesting.org/history-government-and-political-science/
They also have one on Jewish food that may work: https://cistesting.org/downloads/sociology-of-jewish-food-soc-103/
Coopersmith has some that may work, including the history of ice cream and the history of food trucks. If it's not listed on https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coopersmith_Career_Consulting then ask advisor before taking it. And please let us know what transfers you find out about!
I think Saylor is mostly Applied Professional for the UL courses, but we also don't have much information about which courses transfer to Excelsior as what.

Remember that Excelsior unlike TESU and COSC accepts nationally accredited college degree credit, so this means relatively low-cost NA bachelor's providers are possible sources of ULs to Excelsior. These include UoPeople, NationsU, Genesis University, Bottega University, Ashworth College, and Penn Foster College. Penn Foster College courses that have ACE credit recommendations are an old alt-credit standby, but remember that Excelsior is open to NA college credit courses even without ACE.

First, just because Study.com numbers a course as 300 or 400 does not mean that ACE gave them an UL recommendation, nor does it mean that a school will bring them in as UL.

Study.com courses that work in the Arts & Sciences area:
BUS 310: Advanced Business Ethics OR BUS 318: Management Ethics (these duplicate, so only take 1)
BUS 307: Leadership and Organizational Behavior
SOC 305: Sociology of Work
PSY 311: Physiological Psychology
PSY 315: Psychology of Motivation
PSY 316: Advanced Social Psychology

Your capstone will count as UL in that area as well (it's considered a SocSci). So that would be 21cr of UL if you wanted to go with SDC.

Your cornerstone will count as UL if you bring in 60cr, although that's down in the Free Electives area. You could then take 2 additional UL courses, and they can be in just about anything (Business, CompSci, etc.).
