UMPI GE Requirements - diaosteve - 06-15-2022

Hi, I am interested in applying to UMPI BA in History and Political Science degree. Anyone have the specific GE requirements for the degree? Additionally, as I am in the military, how hard is it to apply for a Leave of Absence at the university?

You can find the GEC here: http://catalog.umpi.edu/content.php?catoid=3&navoid=118

I don't know the specific criteria for the POS concentration, but I've attached an image showing the history concentration below.

Thank you! Do you have any information on Leave of Absence?

Just wondering, do you have a JST? Have you taken any CLEP or DSST exams for credit? How many ACE or NCCRS credits do you have? Are you doing the History or Political Science option? I highly recommend you to fill in the degree planning template and addendum to provide us more details.

Sorry, I don't really remember what the policy is on leaves of absence. You would need to discuss that with Jessica, I think. From what I remember, they're okay with students taking a break for a single session. Longer than that would need extra permission/notification. If UMPI is like other schools, I think you'll be fine as long as you can provide proof of the military need for LoA.

I think for someone in your shoes (military that may become deployed and need to take time off), you really need to look at EC and TESU. For those, you're going to get all/most of your credits using alt-credit like study.com, Sophia, Coopersmith, CLEP, and then finish up your degree in 1-2 terms at the school.

A competency-based degree is not a great option for someone who may have to leave in the middle of the term.

A leave of absence is possible but if you leave in the middle of a session you need to complete your courses or drop them. Those drops will be on your transcripts and impact your GPA.

Here's the on campus policy. YourPace may be a bit different.

TESU would be my recommendation as your can take TECEPS for residency, you can study whenever you want and take the exams when you're back.  You basically need 18 credits from TECEPS and take the cornerstone/capstone when you have the time to complete the entire degree as you need 24 residency credits total.  Further to that, if for some reason you want a second degree, it'll just cost you an extra capstone at $750!

TECEPS 6 x 150 = $900
Cornerstone & capstone = $1500
Grad fee = $298
Total cost: $2698
