TESU ranked 14th in the nation for starting salary after bachelor's degree - jch - 06-16-2022

Interesting new study, TESU does surprisingly well: https://universitybusiness.com/the-50-institutions-that-offer-the-best-starting-salaries-for-4-year-degree-holders/
Researchers investigated the starting salaries of graduates from 4yr programs. TESU ranked quite highly, amongst many elite institutions.
Personally, I think this comes down to the student body demographics. The average student age at TESU is 35 - likely a decade older than the other top universities. TESU grads probably get paid more out of the gate because they tend to have substantial prior work/military experience.

That’s awesome! Go TESU ! I think what also helps Is their proximity to NYC.

Interesting tidbit... "While the list gleaned from information from the Department of Education’s College Scorecard does contain some publics, only two are in the Top 20: Thomas Edison State University in New Jersey at No. 14 and the University of California at Berkeley at No. 17."

@jch - Well now, I agree with the initial quick analysis of TESU's reasons for being in the Top 50. I think pretty much on the same line as you. Wow, TESU and U of Cali-Berkeley are the only top 20 public institutions. That doesn't say too much about TESU though...

TESU ranked 14th in the nation for starting salary after bachelor's degree - Kab - 06-17-2022

Demographics of the students, already working for years and probably a more clear career path that normal student.

Most of graduates have many years of experience in the field they grade in, so the reason for the higher salary is mostly not the fact the person got the degree. Its mostly the amount of experience topped up by the degree. If you take graduates who have 0 years of experience + TESU degree, salary will be the same as for any other graduate from any other uni.

Their students are working adults who live near NYC so many work in NYC thus high salaries. It's not like they're turning out hundreds of 22 year olds who are making $200K at their first job.

That's pretty awesome! I'm willing to bet it's a combination of things:

1. New York City residents being a part of it, with high salaries already.
2. A lot of government targeted programs, especially in the nuclear sciences. These are huge salaries.
3. A lot of people who are pursuing degrees at this point from TESU are already well into a career, and want to check off a checkbox for HR.
4. Computer Science and the other Sciences have high starting salaries.
5. The degree can open up doors for higher salaries in more liberal states (who pay more).

If the thought is that TESU made the list because of the student demographics and proximity to NYC it’s interesting that EC isn’t on the list.

Excelsior also did quite well by these measures - click through to the study author's website to see their results.

That's right, the schools are looked at through multiple angles and their methodology isn't really "something we can guess" on... There are so many variables, demographics and proximity to NYC might be just a couple of them. They may have several different factors and ratings institutions need to go through to get the final calculation...
