Top 10 Things Needed to Help Get You Employed - LevelUP - 06-23-2022

I made these things up in my head but this is reality as far as I'm concerned. This list is meant to show what it takes to go from nothing to landing an actual job and what things are important in that process.

Top 10 Things Needed to Help Get You Employed in Order From Least to Most Important
  • Resume
  • Job Hunting Skills
  • Social Network
  • Appearance
  • Interview Skills
  • Licenses/Certs
  • Portfolio
  • Education
  • Skill Level
  • Experience
The order of this isn't set in stone. So you guys can debate which is more important, or if there are any things that should be considered as well?

For example, one thing I wasn't sure about was portfolio vs education.  I know for some jobs such as design and writing, a portfolio can be worth more than an education.

Yep can be anything, I guess. College alumni too.

If you have a wealthy, well-connected family, you could just make a phone call and get a job.

So I guess the caveat here would be that none of these criteria you have at an exceptional level. So we're talking about the average person.

Somewhere on the list I would try to slip in something that might be something like "Proper/Positive Attitude."  In some cases that can win out over virtually all those other qualities.

The whole networking thing is super important, too. Just thinking about it makes me exhausted, though.

While it may not be high on the list of qualifiers, education is arguably the only thing that can be an instant disqualifier. It is, after all, how many of us found our way here.
