Earning a BA & a BS from TESU? - Momof3Girls - 08-10-2022
Planning for my 11th grader ... her goal is a BA in Psych and a BS in Organizational Leadership from TESU. Can you earn them simultaneously? I think you can do 2 at once based on this page, but I may be confused.
For reference, end goal is probably a Master's in Organizational Pysch. We have access to plenty of RA credits in our state

Yup, but most of the time when people look at the BSOL, we recommend something slightly different, the BSBA with another AOS such as Operations Management or Organizational Management/HRM. Link: https://www.tesu.edu/business/undergraduate/bsba/hr-management

In my opinion, the time and money would be better spent on going straight to an I/O psychology masters program after the BA in psychology. If degree marketability is a concern, a BSBA will have more utility than an organizational leadership degree.

They can earn a BS and BA at the same time? I thought one could only choose two areas of study within the same degree.

You can do two areas of study within one degree, so it's like a double major. The BS and BA are two different degrees.

You can get two degrees at the same time but there's a maximum number of overlapping credits.

Yup, and for the reasons mentioned above, it's best to go for the BA Psych and ladder to a MS Psych, also go for the BSBA either AOS, or if you feel like learning since the student is still young, you can go for the BSBA with the double AOS I mentioned above...

The BSOL cannot be done via alt-credit; Area II: Leadership Foundations is able to be done via Study.com, but Area III: Advanced Leadership only has 1 course available there (Project Management) so you'd have to find 9cr somewhere else (or at TESU); and then for the Additional Advanced Leadership & Management area, you'd need another 9cr (and it's unclear what they will accept there).
You're much better off with the BSBA w/HR-OM concentration, or else the BA in Psych with an Undergrad Certificate in Organizational Leadership (either can be done entirely via alt-credit at Study.com).
If you did the BA/Psych + Cert in OL, you will also negate the need for a 2nd capstone.

Advanced Organizational Management (MAN-425)
Principles of Management (MAN-301) (Study.com Bus 101)
Leadership in the Global Environment (LDR-422)
Nonprofit Leadership (LDR-419)
Leaders in History (LDR-324)
You will have to take 2 courses from TESU, which shouldn't cost you extra if you do the flat-rate term.
It looks like it shouldn't be a problem filling in electives.
You can do both degrees simultaneously. There is a max of 9cr overlap in the AOS. If you do BSBA with 2 concentrations, then there is no overlap allowed between 2 BSBA concentrations.

And another reason I usually recommend the BSBA over the BSOL is the programmatic/secondary accreditation, the BSOL isn't ACBSP whereas the BSBA is and has been since 2017. For example, if your 11th grader wanted to do a MBA or MSML at WGU later, they have an ACBSP accreditation as well, it'll be a natural progression to that Masters level. OR if you're going the MS I/O Psychology and want a competency based degree option, the Walden MS I/O Psychology using their Tempo Learning would be an option...

It looks like the 9 credits in "additional advanced leadership and management electives" can be just about anything with a MAN or LDR prefix. I did a what-if and Sophia's Project Management came in here. Skip the Sophia course, do Google's Project Management certificate, and you should have those electives filled.
