Question re: SDC Computer Science 204 - Database Programming - raekwon - 11-22-2022

So... I'm thinking of taking this course for transfer into the WGU BSCSIA program. WGU considers it equivalent to a "second database course," and it transfers in as C170 Data Management - Applications. I don't know SQL, but I've been in IT for over 20 years and generally pick up tech concepts pretty easily. Worth a try without having taken an introductory database course?

(I'm transferring in a Pierpont BoG AAS w/ an Information Systems emphasis, so I may already receive credit for C175 Data Management - Foundations. We'll see when I get my transcript evaluated.)

I did the 303 Data Management course.

I would think you would use MySql Workbench for the 204 project
https://study.com/academy/lesson/installing-mysql-for-database-programming.html

The course should take up to 10hrs for the quizzes and up to 10hrs for the assignment.

I also did the 303, which felt like introductory (might even somehow be easier than 204???).  I looked at the chapter outline, and from what I see I don't think you'll have any trouble at all.  SQL reads like English, and they aren't going to make you do anything tremendously complicated..  If you have other languages under your belt, everything you do in SQL is going to be analogous to something you already understand the basic concept of with even easier syntax.

It's not listed at partners.wgu, but the SDC WGU page says that 303 transfers in as C175, so I'm gonna chance skipping that in hopes that it's covered by my AAS (heh).

I think I'm gonna go ahead and do 204. Thanks!

Wouldn't hurt to do some quick SQL tutorial on the web, just to get your feet wet.

Good idea. I'm doing "Learn SQL" on codecademy and then taking SDC's placement test for CS303 to see if that allows me to bypass at least a little bit of CS204.

Yes that is a Study.com hack. If you do a placement test for a similar course, that will likely reduce the number of quizzes you have to do.
