edX sale to 2U leaves both sides struggling - smartdegree - 12-20-2022

Interesting article.  Looks like 2U and edX are hitting profitability issues and laying off significant number of staff.

Wow, who could have predicted that selling a non profit education entity to a for profit business that mixes in disguised advertisements for external programs within its own programs was a bad move?

2U acquisition badly tainting edX original mission and reputation, 2U mixed and blended their for-profit and very pricey programs from 2U partnered school pricey online degrees, and also from GetSmarter and Trilogy Bootcamp with original edX programs that has much cheaper tuition.

Trilogy is the bootcamp that is used by many universities offering coding/cybersecurity bootcamps, seems like the school name is just branding for the same white-label content, and GetSmarter offers pricey short courses.

It seems unlikely there will be any new degree programs offered on edX with 10k-ish tuition range like GT and UT Austin, new programs/degrees will be full on for-profit.

Was this program available long time ago? I didn´t remember it.

Master’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences
from The University of Texas at Austin
https://www.edx.org/masters/online-master-in-nutritional-sciences-utaustin

It´s $25,300, much higher than the 10k-ish programs they are still keeping there.

I hope they don´t raise the others like that.

Found the announcement that was on Jan 2020 ( https://twitter.com/edXOnline/status/1222565139775479808 ), a year before 2U acquisition, and it was already 25k tuition from the beginning, 2.5x more expensive than MSCS and MSDS degree from same university

Like button still exists for me. Maybe just not on the mobile theme?

I hate the mobile theme for other reasons, so even on my phone I use the desktop version of the site.
